Meet Aimee Wilson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aimee Wilson.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Growing up my father was a photographer and my mother loved to draw. They encouraged me to do anything creative that I wanted to. That resulted in me having a love of photography and sewing. I have a degree in environmental science and love to incorporate nature into my art.

Please tell us about your art.
I love to photograph the world around me from the tiniest bugs to larger than life landscapes. I use my photographs and vintage scientific illustrations to create textile designs. Many of my designs are abstract designs based off of photographs of rocks & minerals, flowers, wood, and other things that I find interesting patterns in. I also enjoying taking bits out of photos and combining them in interesting ways to create an eye-catching design. I print the designs on fabric and make clothing for myself. I find it’s a fun way to combine two arts that I love.

Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
My advice would be to always be learning and try new things. Don’t be shy about sharing your work. There is a niche for everyone. It takes time to build a portfolio and to build a fan base. Celebrate every little achievement and work towards the next.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
People can see my work on Instagram. My photography is at www.instagram.com/snaphappyscientist. My sewing is at www.instagram.com/sewingscientist. I also have many images on Flickr at https://www.flickr.com/photos/aimeewilson/.
