Meet Ajasia Bates-Darden of Tummy Teasers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ajasia Bates-Darden.

Ajasia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am 26 yrs old with a four years old son. I started back in 2014 with just making “Cakes in a Jr” and Banana Pudding. I started making sweet treats because I was single mother providing for my son. I though of the idea while sitting at home one day thinking about what all I was good at. Before I had my son, I danced in college at Texas College in Tyler, Texas. I felt like dancing was all I was good at until I just went on YouTube and figured out how to make a cake from scratch. I prayed about it and stepped out on faith, a few days later I went to purchase all the supplies to try it out. After baking the cakes I had my family and a few friends try it out and tell me their honest opinion.

After that, I started making the Cake Jars, soon after I learned how to make banana pudding. Around 2016 business started to slow down and I got discouraged so I stopped altogether. In 2017, I started having a change of heart about my business altogether. I asked myself what else can I add to this business so it can grow? So there it was, I added chocolate strawberries, pretzels, rice krispies, candy apples, and many more other desserts. I started practicing more and I seen so much change. Business started to grow and many people supported me. I’ve had the honor to cater baby showers, birthday parties, weddings, and many more special occasions. August 2017, I became the proud and legal owner of Tummy Teasers. As of now, business is growing and I’m constantly praying that my business grow more and more over the years. I went from giving up on my dream to taking full control over it.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has not been smooth at all because you run into bumps in the road, I had a very small child when I first started off so I had to pay more attention to my son then I got married in 2017 then life happened and things wasn’t going to great so it was either choose my family or my business to fix. Nothing was easy about none of this.

Please tell us about Tummy Teasers.
I specialize in Chocolate covered strawberries, pretzels, Oreo ‘s, apples, rice krispies, strawberry cheesecake, candy apples, banana pudding, pecan pie cheesecake. I am proud that I can provide the exact services to my customers. I am always upfront with my customers at all times. What set me apart from other is that I don’t just do it for the money I also do it for the smiles and happiness of others.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have promoted myself a little bit more and not be so quick to just give up when times gets hard.
