Today we’d like to introduce you to Alante Williams.
Alante, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been interested in hair all of my life! I’ve watched many talented stylists over the years and I always had an eye for wanting to make people feel good! I grew up pretty normal! I had my fair share and f ups and downs but I knew from the start hair was where I needed to be! I remember starting to do hair at 16 I did my friend’s hair for 25 dollars!
But it didn’t matter the price I loved it! Growing up my mom got into trouble but she gave her life to god after she lost her best friend in a car accident and almost went to jail for a while. I remember how hard it was for her during this change she decided to make but she was my mother and I couldn’t watch her do it alone and still worry about me. We struggled in silence! But there is a god! I got my first job at 16 and was doing hair out of my mom’s living room! I went to college not because I wanted to but because my family decided I should! I always knew I wanted to do hair! I had a dear friend of mine (Alvin Wade) tell me why you are always doing what you have to do… do what you love.
But I’ve always been that person! Doing what I have to do! But I always wasted so much precious time doing that! I was in college, doing hair out of my dorm room! Doing sewins for 50 dollars lol! But that got me through college… that fed me! I didn’t have it like that but I made it! I came home 2 1/2 years after and I was still stuck on doing what I had too! But I kept doing hair out of my mom’s living room and worked a 9to5 this lasted for many years until my boyfriend passed so suddenly! I was lost and confused. So I went to counseling and she told me something that stuck “Find you out of this situation,” and that’s just what I did! I used cosmetology school as a stepping stone and a way for me not to fill incomplete anymore! I enjoyed it! I quit! I didn’t like it all the time! But school taught me discipline and taught me that you might get tired but don’t give up! And here I am today a successful businesswoman. The owner of I am Queen Hair Care! My guardian angels helped me through! My grandmother who nurtured me and made me know he’d work pays off! My aunt Terry who always said what she felt and built this tough skin I have because sometimes you have to hear what you don’t want to! And Blue the love of my life… he changed the person that i was into the person I am because that situation taught me so many life things!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been hard on the part about believing in yourself! I’ve thought plenty of times I’m not good enough! People have so much to say! I waited too late to get started! I fought with the fears of being underestimated!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about I Am Queen Hair – what should we know?
I’m most proud that I’ve been able to survive two whole years without a hand out… without falling off of my game… without being pushed back! I survived myself! I am Queen Hair Care is a brand I built off of hair care products… lashes and being a stylist! Everyone wants to be a queen at all times! Treat like a Queen! Feel like a Queen at all times the female ruler of an independent state!
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I’ve been inspired by my friends and family without them, I wouldn’t have made it this far! Pat on the back… a Pep talk… a kick in the butt when I needed it!! All praises to my mother cause she is the true definition of never being what you been through! Be the bigger person!
