Today we’d like to introduce you to Alayza Casey.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Alayza. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m born and raised in Michigan and moved to Dallas in 2015. When I was in Michigan I worked in at Macy’s Lancome counter which I didn’t hate because I got to play with makeup. Me and my husband Deon decided to move to Dallas to pursue what we love further, makeup for me and photography for him. When I first moved to Dallas I transferred to a Macy’s Clinique at the Galleria mall counter which I hated! It was high-pressure sales but it was the closest I could get to doing makeup at the time. I worked at Clinique for no more than 2 months! Lol! I was constantly looking for my next makeup job. I ended up getting hired at Ulta as a Lancome beauty advisor and I really enjoyed working for Lancome because I was comfortable with how Lancome was running and knew their products. However, still hated doing sales and began to feel like I wasn’t getting anywhere in my career. So, I decided to take the leap and quit Ulta to become a freelance makeup artist full time.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Coming from Michigan and not knowing anyone! It was really hard for me! I had to build my clientele from scratch. This is when I began to get into social media really heavy! I was posting that I was in Dallas multiple times a day and posting in groups. I was just trying to get my name out there. However, didn’t really have work to back up my experience as a makeup artist. This is when I and my husband teamed up and began to do photo shoots all of the time! We were doing as many shots as we possibly could. By doing so, I could show my work and it also helped me improve my makeup techniques and skill.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Alayza Casey Makeup story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a full-time freelance makeup artist for my company Alayza Casey Makeup in North Dallas. I specialize in red carpet/natural glam. I am most proud of my growth both skill and clientele wise. When I first came to Dallas I knew no one and 2 years later I’m a know makeup artist here in Dallas. I am very proud of that.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I wouldn’t say I was lucky, but I am extremely grateful for where my business is now. I worked hard to get to where I am and will keep working hard to get to where I want to be.
