Today we’d like to introduce you to Alberto J. Garcia.
Alberto, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Born in Mexico, I came to Dallas at the age of six. Raised by a single mother with three kids. I felt like I had something to prove to my family and to the world. Early in my life, I had to become the “man of the house” but I always had big dreams but I knew the journey wouldn’t be easy. However, I knew that if I kept a tunnel vision and kept the right attitude I could achieve anything.
I went to The University of North Texas on full scholarship and received a degree in Real estate and minor in Spanish. My journey with Uniformity began my last semester in college. I’ve always put myself in leadership positions whether it’d be in soccer, joining organizations like Latino Center for Leadership Development, LULAC, UNT Real Estate Club, Fraternity Delta Sigma phi representing UNT real estate program, and being featured on the UNT ‘invest’ page. Being the first person in my family to graduate from a four-year University. I set the bar high for my family but then raised it even higher after launching Uniformity. In my last (almost) six months of being in business I have learned how to become a leader, how to build clientele, how to operate a business and most importantly how to provide for others. I want to be an example for future Latino students/entrepreneurs to follow and succeed. My story has always been based on how many people I can inspire and how many lives I can impact. Uniformity is only stepped one of my journeys.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road hasn’t been easy nor did I expect it to be. Specially for a young Latino entrepreneur. Specifically certain people who think I’m too young or unqualified to run a company who won’t give you a contract for those two reasons. However, I am constantly proving myself every day. Luckily, I have a great family and mentors to help me with the ups and downs.
I think the biggest struggle that I deal with at the moment is finding other young entrepreneurs to do business with. The reason I say this is because nowadays I find myself trying to do business with an existing business that has been established for 10+ years and already have a provider for the services I offer. However, I know this is a stage of doing business. People have to keep hearing about Uniformity and getting familiar with the quality of our work. Keeping a vision of who you want to be and who you are in your head helps to keep a positive attitude.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Uniformity story. Tell us more about the business.
Uniformity is the place for all of your uniform needs. We sell all types of uniforms including medical, school, business, and sports uniforms. We also, offer dry cleaning services, embroidery services, and custom apparel like T-shirts. We are known for our great customer service and that is what I am most proud of. We differentiate ourselves by always making sure that anyone we do business with leaves with a sense of confidence that they were treated with the highest quality and service. Having uniforms has proved to be an effective way of increasing productivity and has given people a sense of belonging to something bigger than themselves.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I definitely see the industry going mostly online and e-commerce. Tech giants like Amazon, Shopify, now Walmart E-commerce are making it easier and easier to sell your products online and that can be a huge advantage for anyone who is looking to make an online impact.
