Meet Alejandro and Pablo Moreno of Tandem Offroad in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandro and Pablo Moreno.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 2009 Pablo Moreno founded Tandem. He is an ASE Certified Mechanic and a talented fabricator. He ran the business by himself until 2015 when I, Alejandro (Alex) Moreno, joined him as an equal partner. My background is in aerospace with a BS in Industrial Engineering and a Masters in Business Administration. Pablo and I are both avid fans of Toyota 4×4 trucks and SUV’s so when I joined him we decided that we would focus our business around them. Pablo is the boots on the ground of the operation and extremely versatile. He can do pretty much anything that a customer asks for from something as simple as basic maintenance all the way to a complete engine rebuild or regearing of the front and rear differentials as well as sheet metal fabrication.

I am behind the scenes most of the time and mainly focus on business administration and product design. Tandem initially started doing service work only but we have expanded to the production of products in order to expand the business.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has been difficult for sure. One of the biggest struggles Tandem deals with is the seasonal nature of the work we do. After Thanksgiving, the work slows down and doesn’t really pick up again until February. In order to mitigate the slow down we have started to produce products such as rock sliders (heavy duty steps that mount to the frame of the truck), bumpers, wheels, etc.

Another huge obstacle right now is our tiny shop of only 2,000 square feet. Along with our alignment rack we have only one lift. This is definitely a huge bottle neck and a constant source of frustration.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Tandem Offroad – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Our company is focused entirely around Toyota and Lexus 4×4’s only and this is what sets us apart from other off-road shops in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. This means that our techs are extremely familiar with each platform and can do the job better than anyone else.

Tandem does everything from basic maintenance to suspension modifications, 3D modeling, our focus is to increase and enhance the already impressive off-road capabilities of these vehicles. We are very well known for our suspension installations.

We invested in a $60,000 alignment machine to make sure that whenever we install a suspension solution on a customer’s vehicle it comes out perfectly.

One of the things we are most proud of as a company is making sure that our customers are satisfied with the solutions we provide. We will go to great lengths to make sure that everything comes out perfect.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
In March of 2018, we will be moving to a 4,200 square foot building which we are looking forward to quite a bit! We will be able to have four lifts which will make our job much easier. In addition, we will be able to expand the fabrication side as well. WE CAN’T WAIT!

Another big thing for Tandem is the release of our own line of wheels that were designed by us specifically for Toyota and Lexus 4×4 vehicles. We included some design features which will make them better suited for off-road use such as protective ridges all along the outer diameter to protect the valve stem from damage and an extra thick outer bead seat which will protect the wheel from rocks.
