Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexa Kelly.
Alexa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been a collector since forever. I like to think I have an eye for the unique and fabulous. I’ve always frequented thrift stores and estate sales, but only ever considered it a hobby. Shortly after I began my Ph.D. in 2017, I started seeking a creative outlet to help me deal with the demands of graduate school. Thus, Periwink’d Vintage was born. I’m a scientist by day, vintage wonder by night.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Maybe in contrast to most brick-and-mortar shops, the beginning of the business was the easiest. The struggle began when I started selling a larger amount of goods. More buyers mean more eyes on your items; and for an online business, this often means more internet trolls and mean reviewers. Though the majority of my customers are overwhelmingly positive, it’s hard not to take the few critical ones personally. However, I am thankful for the growth!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Periwink’d Vintage – what should we know?
Periwink’d Vintage is an online vintage store specializing in 60’s-80’s women’s clothing. Our other services include styling for photoshoots and fashion shows, as well as personal shopping. We can be found on most online retailing platforms, including Instagram, Poshmark, eBay, Depop, Whurl, and Tradesy. We are most proud of being a part of a community committed to sustainable fashion. I would love to thank all of the talented photographers and models who have managed to capture the glamorous essence of our clothes. Another big shout out goes to the sustainable fashion cohort at The ReVamp in Denton, TX for creating an ethical fashion community in DFW. Last but not least, I need to thank my husband and friends for the continued support of my side passion.
