Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra Moore.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
To be honest, I started my photography business pretty out of the blue. I’ve always had a love for capturing memories, which I think I got from my sweet momma. Growing up she made scrapbooks for my brother and I ever. single. year. She was SO good about capturing and documenting every season of life. Fast forward to about 5 years ago and I received my very first DSLR camera from my family and boyfriend-at-the-time-now-hubby, Ryan. For some reason I’ve always thought it was so special that they all pitched in to get me my first camera body and lens. Fast forward a few more years and my mom went to be with Jesus after battling breast cancer off and on. I went through a season of SO much change. I lost a parent, I started a new job, I got engaged, we bought a house, we fixed up the house, we got married, we traveled to new places, we got a pup, etc. etc. etc. Amidst so much change (and a lot of grief and sorrow), I always found joy in capturing and documenting all the memories we were experiencing together as newlyweds. After a whole lot of encouragement from Ryan, I decided one day to step out of my comfort zone and start capturing these memories for others. I really felt like my excitement for photography was a gift that the Lord had given me for the purpose of serving others. I was originally taking photos for families at my Church and a few months later I somehow weaseled my way into Wedding Photography.
I’ll be totally upfront and say that jumping into this industry is incredibly intimidating. Dallas-Fort Worth is EXPLODING with talented photographers and I struggled a lot at the beginning with being confident in my work and not letting comparison steal my joy. The Lord has taught me so much since starting Restoring Moore Photography. I’m finally at a place in my business where I just really LOVE capturing the joys and celebrations of life, whether that be a proposal, a wedding, a new babe, or a graduation. Documenting every season, printing them out, hanging those memories in our home, and better yet, capturing those memories for others, is such a gift to me. My heart overflows when I take a step back and see how the Lord has used this passion he’s given me to connect me with some of the absolute sweetest families, couples, photographers and vendors.
Please tell us about your art.
So as you read earlier, I’m a photographer in Dallas-Fort Worth. I cherish dearly the photos I have from my mom growing up, the wedding day prints that I have hanging in every room of our house, and the countless photos I have of our travels and fixer upper projects. In the recent years, I realized what a gift it is to be able to capture these seasons of life for other families and couples, which is how Restoring Moore Photography bloomed. I capture weddings, engagements, families and newborns.
My husband and my family are absolutely my biggest encouragers and my greatest inspiration. Restoring Moore Photography would not exist if it wasn’t for them. My husband was the one to push me out of my comfort zone to start taking photos for families. He’s been by my side on several wedding days, is my favorite second shooter in the whole wide world, and always convinces me that my photos are the best he’s ever laid eyes on (SO far from the truth, but you get the point – he’s the sweetest). After booking my first wedding, my sweet Dad went and got me a full-frame camera. He’s also been one of my biggest encouragers and I don’t think he will ever fully understand how much I cherish the way he supports, encourages and loves me. Same goes for my little brother, who from the start told every person he knew about my business and downloads Instagram not because he uses it, but because he wants to give my posts some loving’.
The race through all the hills and valleys in life can be a tough one, and I’ve found that regardless of the season, capturing and documenting even the smallest of celebrations is a gift that brings me so much joy. And regardless of who you are or what stage of life you’re in, I think having photos of those big or small celebrations to look back on is a gift that everyone finds joy in.
Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
Starting ANY business requires a ton of time and I think having a support system around you that encourages you on your hard days, but also holds you accountable to taking a break and resting every now and then is so valuable. I’ve been very blessed to have the ability to work full time and still pursue my passion in photography. I do have goals to pursue photography full-time someday that my husband and I talk about often. Personally, I’ve chosen to continue working full time as I start my business to ease the financial stresses of pursing photography as my main career. I’m confident that the time I’m dedicating now, though sometimes overwhelming, will be WELL worth it in the end.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
You can see my work on www.RestoringMoore.com. I actually work full time and do my photography on the side, so a majority of the images on my site are from wedding, engagement, family and newborn sessions. My goal this year is to be better about documenting and sharing our home / fixer upper and our travels!
You can also find me on Instagram @restoringmoore. I’m always amazed at how that little app can connect me to so many families and couples. So, if we haven’t already connected, be sure to send a quick “Hey!” I would love to hear from you!
