Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Bryant.
Alexis, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I moved to the Dallas area 10 years ago. I left a small town in Louisiana, because I wanted more for myself, I wanted more opportunities. I just decided one day to pack up my car and drive to Dallas. I was scared, but I knew that if I stayed in that small town my potential would drown. I arrived in Dallas with no job and only 100.00 to my name. Thankfully I was able to live with my aunt, while I worked out the details of my life. I eventually landed a job as a unit secretary at a hospital in Arlington, TX. I worked hard and saved up enough money to move into my apartment in Arlington. I still knew that I had more to do. I still wanted to keep growing and moving forward. I knew that my passion was always to encourage others, but I didn’t know how to get started. I didn’t know that I was already doing that by just being myself. People would always tell me how my smile would make their day. They would always say how positive and calming I am when I would interact with others. That’s when HappilyLexi came to be. I didn’t know that my normal self was so inspiring and encouraging to others. I then started to post on social media my smiling selfies, inspirational quotes, and my love of coffee. The next project I’m working on is transforming my Instagram blog into The HappilyLexi Life. I must say the transformation from a small town girl to the big city lights here in Texas has been the best leap of faith in my life.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road to get to where I am has been bumpy. I think that when you have to change your mindset it can be the hardest project you will ever work on. I always struggled with believing in myself. I knew that I could do the task ahead of me, but always felt that it was too big for me. The biggest struggle that I had was making a career change from secretary to healthcare marketing. I knew that I could do the job, but didn’t quite believe that I could. I didn’t feel quite good enough standing next to other marketing professionals that had master degrees in the field, and here I was with just a high school diploma and a boss that believed I could do it. I jumped into the role feet first and I studied my potential clients to make myself a resource to everyone. I eventually had to trust and start believing in myself. I still struggle with self-belief today, but I just keep whispering to myself everyday, just keep swimming.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about HappilyLexi – what should we know?
I don’t have an official business yet. But I’m building a brand, The HappilyLexi Life. I want my brand to encourage other women and let them know that it doesn’t matter where you come or your credentials that you can be the best at whatever your passion is. I want to use The HappilyLexi Life to let others see that by just being yourself you can build confidence in others to do the same.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Yes I have a wonderful career coach Rogers Vigne, he is the CEO of My Digital Self. He has reshaped my thinking and gave me the tools to achieve my goals in my career.
Balinda Antoine, she is the CEO of Rosa Home Health. She gave me my first job in healthcare marketing. She believed in me and knew that I could do the job.
