Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Cavo.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Alexis. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After graduating with my master’s in Social Work, specializing in mental health and substance abuse, I began my search for a career. I worked as an intern in my undergrad at the Brain Injury Network of Dallas, which helped me develop my passion for understanding the brain. During grad school, I worked as an intern at the Behavioral Health Hospital in Dallas, Texas. It was here where I found a strong passion for working in groups as a partial hospitalization program therapist as well as an intake therapist and working with individuals suffering from mental illness and substance abuse.
However, I was still unsure if I wanted to work at these places immediately. I started to become curious about beginning my journey to have my own private practice as a therapist. While I began this journey, something still felt a little off or unsure about my career choice. Every day and night I was constantly thinking about what I wanted to do now that I had finally completed grad school and obtained a master’s degree.
One day as I was driving home, I had sort of a flashback to when I first graduated high school and my mom kept on telling me that I needed to be a “life coach”! I held this thought in my head all the way until I finally got home and quickly began my research. Immediately after doing some research, I knew that I had discovered my career. I began to do everything in my power to learn how to become a life coach, how to start a business, and how to utilize my education from all those years of school and incorporate into my new career as a life coach! I was so passionate about the industry that I used the last of what was left in my banking account to start my business.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say there are times where everything feels as if it is falling into place so easily, and also times where literally everything feels as if it falling apart. I used the last money that I had in my bank account to start my business, not knowing what to expect. The only thing I was certain of was my power and ability to transform lives. I also knew I was knowledgeable and educated through finishing grad school and completing my master’s degree with all high passing grades. So I think because I was so ready and willing to go into the experience, it made things seem a little bit more free-flowing.
Now I won’t lie, I have quite a few struggles along the way. I constantly put myself out there with new ideas and concepts and some stuck and some failed. When my ideas would fail, I had not quite understood the amazing lessons that come from failure. Therefore, I would beat myself up and had negative thought spin cycles that would make me get really close to quitting and giving up. Those negative thoughts would feel so real and were not the best for my own mental health. As a life coach working on improving mental health, I had to understand how to go through my own self-help and become vulnerable and work through my own personal flaws as a priority!
Please tell us about Paragon Consulting.
My business is called Paragon Consulting LLC. I am a life/fitness coaching company. I train people who want to become life coaches through my company while also taking on clients of my own. I help improve your mental health and discover breakthroughs so that client s can transform into a higher version of themselves.
Fitness kind of just fell into my lap while I was on my journey to becoming a life coach. I can truly say that I began to take control of my mental health and my physical body followed. I ended up losing 30 pounds within 3 1/2 months and have kept it off. I did not even realize how unhealthy I was for my body type.
I host fitness classes called HIIT on the Plaza at the Toyota Music Factory in Las Colinas twice a week. My program ends at the end of October but we will be back once it starts to warm back up. I also host another fitness program called #FallIntoFitness at Turtle Creek Park 3 times a week, which ends November 20th. You can join at any time and your first time is free. Lastly, I host virtual HIIT workouts as well upon booking request.
Paragon is known for influencing a healthy lifestyle through the improvement of mental and physical health. I am most proud that Paragon is transforming so many lives after being brand new into the business side of things. Paragon has a team of life coaches who all specialize in something different. We keep the client in our best interest and have options for the client to choose from! I am new to the industry and have had so many successes within just a few months, which means Paragon must be doing something right!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel like being authentic and genuine is most important to my success. As I have gotten deeper into my industry, I noticed that there could be a stigma that others can place onto us as life coaches. The stigma is something along the lines to we are “perfect” or we will “judge” others, and all the other things that come along with committing to becoming a life coach and working in the self-help field. I understand that an opinion is just an opinion and people will ALWAYS have an opinion. Therefore, I strive to be myself completely and let people know the good and the bad. I am open with my mistakes and own up to every action that takes place. A life coach is not someone that is perfect but someone who strives to be authentically human and ever-evolving.
