Meet Alexis Crawford of Lexie Lash in Far North Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Crawford.

Alexis, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Born raised as a Chicagoan for 20 years, it has been such a transition over the past nine years becoming a “Texan” (lol). When I decided to reside in Texas at 19, I planned to stay here with my dad temporarily- I needed to regain my focus and pay off school debt so that I could return to Howard University. Though I had set goals in mind, It’s crazy how my ideas and plans quickly shifted once I made a move. Moving here turned out to be the best decision for me. Texas showed me that it was a place full of opportunities and that this Windy city girl had a new platform to hone in on my biggest dreams. For my first few years, I worked and enrolled in some college courses in Frisco. I did what I could to maintain a social life while still staying focused on the bigger goal. After just three years of being in Texas, I welcomed my first daughter (Zoey) into the world. It wasn’t until then that I realized the importance of really solidifying a career path for our future. Once she arrived, I began to hustle and put the drive in providing a life for us as a young working mother. I gained so much experience working for different companies from retail, to customer service, tax preparation, and insurance- yet, I still felt as though my life’s passions and goals weren’t being fulfilled.

Fast forward to 2017- I kept thinking about things that I could do for my family and myself that would allow me to: control my income and leave a great legacy to my (now) daughter(s). After considering many beauty industry niches, I thought about how much I loved wearing eyelashes. At the time, my cousin who is an Esthetician in Chicago was flourishing in her business and mentoring other lash artists. I saw how much she loved her job and the impact it made on everyone she serviced. Being able to look beautiful and help others feel beautiful, all while educating them on the importance of self-care- it made the perfect sense! Eyelash extensions were it! I decided to invest in my craft and took a class with her in Chicago to become certified.

Initially, I thought, “oh this is a great side hustle and will allow me to help others while I continue working on myself,”-but the more I dove into the craft, my passion for lashing blossomed even more. I went on to take more lash certification courses, including a volume lash course here in Dallas, which marked a better turn for my business.

Has it been a smooth road?
Smooth? What a word to pick (lol). They say success doesn’t come without struggle, right? Smooth would be so ideal, but if it were that smooth, then it wouldn’t be as gratifying. My biggest struggle being a mompreneur has been the balancing act! In 2019, I leaped faith, leaving corporate America as a Licensed Insurance Agent to start my lash services full time. It was a bittersweet experience having freedom. While I had complete control of my schedule, I soon realized that I needed more income to fund the dream and expand my business. No one ever really talks about/ shows you the behind the scenes leg work that goes into starting a business. It takes continuous revisions to get things going in a way that will be beneficial to the producer, as well as the consumer.

This year, I decided to go back to working a full-time job- all while fulfilling my commitment as a mother and a part-time lash artist. I have to continue maximizing my time for my family and maintaining my business. Like any entrepreneur trying to breakthrough in their business, staying encouraged and self-motivated is an acquired skill. Through it all, with my AMAZING support system, I am molding my vision and pushing through. Without the love and support from my family and clients, I would not have come this far.

Please tell us about your business.
LexieLash is my Eyelash Extension business. I offer quality eyelash extensions, specializing in Hybrid Sets. I also provide mobile lash service in the Dallas/Fort Worth area upon request, making it convenient for ladies to experience the lash transformation wherever they choose. What sets me apart is my knack for quality customer service. Not only do I hold value in the way I treat my clients, but I find it key also to educate them on their lash maintenance. I have a wide range of clients who come to me wanting a service that involves pampering and empowerment. Being able to give them that is a defining point of my business-enhancing eyelashes for women just like me.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The best thing about Dallas is the room and resources to GROW! There are so many ways to network and develop your passions. I like to call it the “city of new beginnings.” I’m always recommending people I know to move here for a fresh start to be able to jump into any market they choose and excel. As long as you come with the hustle, Dallas has the key to success. My least favorite thing about the city is the food and the toll roads! (Toll roads being worse). I wish Dallas or Far North Dallas/ Plano area had more mom and pop restaurants to choose from. I would like more variety out there.
