Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia and Adam Rico.
Bows + Arrows is dedicated to the creation of beauty via the art of floral design. The husband and wife team work with the environment, gathering inspiration from the landscape and working with seasonal flora. Their philosophy is found in nature and the couple’s work is a reflection of what is natural, lush, relaxed and overgrown.
Alicia earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from TCU with an emphasis in Painting. Her formal art training informs decisions of composition, color, and texture and she gathers constant inspiration from nature, art, and everything beautiful. She worked with flowers in NYC for 3 years before moving back to Texas to open a studio with her husband.
Adam earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Pratt Institute with an emphasis in Painting. During his undergraduate career, he studied intensive courses on color theory, sculpture, and ceramics. He worked as a photo shoot producer for 5 years in NYC + LA. He followed his wife back to Texas to start a business based around nature and art.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Our main struggles have been our lack of business knowledge and management skills. We are creatives and maybe perhaps think with our hearts more than we should.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Bows and Arrows – what should we know?
We are known for our gardenesque aesthetic. We take cues from nature and try to imitate it. Our arrangements are loose, effortless, and romantic. We forage and source all greenery locally. We specialize in installations, transformation of spaces, and large projects. We are also potters who make our own vessels from clay via our sister business, Rico Terre.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
We have had a couple cheerleaders in the industry who have lifted us up with praise and cheered us on- Ryan Ray Photography and Stefanie Miles Events. We have built partnerships and friendships with them both.
