Meet Alicia Brooks of LuLaRoe Alicia Brooks in Bedford

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Brooks.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
A year ago, I signed up to become a LuLaRoe Retailer out of dire necessity. This decision was made faster than any decision in my life and it’s also been the greatest Blessing ever!

I have a 6 year old daughter, Vera, who has severe allergies/asthma and I have a 3 year old son, Simon, who was diagnosed with Severe Autism before he was 2. Simon is non-verbal and we are still working on basic skills like waving, nodding and making eye contact. He requires Full-Time ABA Therapy and also needs Speech Therapy and would benefit from Feeding Therapy… When Simon was diagnosed we immediately started trying to help him in every way we could. Our insurance changed three times in 13 months, which means we maxed out of pocket 3 times! Despite both my husband and I working Full Time we could not keep up with the cost of Therapy or meet both our kids’ medical needs. It wasn’t just Financial… my job was a huge strain as I was having to leave work early every day to pick Simon up after therapy, because daycares couldn’t handle him.. I couldn’t find a Balance.

This dire necessity lit a fire in me! I knew I HAD to do everything I could! I thought of what I loved most… I had recently purchased a LuLaRoe Amelia Dress. High-waisted, stretchy, with POCKETS! When I wore that dress I got compliments and I found myself telling everyone all about it. And so that simply, I decided to start my own LuLaRoe Business. I emailed my husband about it and he replied “YES!” Matt and I weren’t new to dreaming about starting a business. We have several Business ideas and often talked about finding the right Product.

I hate change, but occasionally in life the NEED for it outweighs the FEAR. We were already maxing out credit cards and going into debt so the startup cost no longer scared me. It amazes me still. I’ve always wanted to run my own Business and here I am.

We turned our home into a Boutique… no more Dining Room or office, hallways became Dressing Rooms, and our kitchen counter is checkout. We opened our home and hearts to the Community. I became a Vendor at every City event, did weekly LIVE SALES on Facebook and did over 100 in-home Shopping Parties! I “Cruise Qualified” my first year, something only 5-8% of consultants do.

This business means everything to our family so we can DREAM BIG for SIMON.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
When I first began the Business I really struggled with being an Introvert, growing my customer base, & self-doubt. I was also laid off from my full time job just a few weeks in! I had planned for my Business to build slowly but all of a sudden I needed it to provide full-time income.

I committed to talking to 10 people a day about LuLaRoe. I had Business Cards in my Pocket ready to go. I always had, and still have, a battle in my head. I always told myself “Simon can’t talk yet, so you don’t get to NOT talk”. God I’d do anything for him, so ya, I talk to people. I share my WHY, my reason for starting this Boutique.

I was lucky to have an amazing Trainer and support teams. They kept me on track and told me everything I needed to know. I follow the advice and it works.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about LuLaRoe Alicia Brooks – what should we know?
LuLaRoe is very unique. While there are many LuLaRoe Retailers in the US, we all have our own unique inventory, boutique look and our own customers. We carry sizes XXS-3X and children’s clothes as well. LuLaRoe is known for the buttery soft leggings, fun printed tops and comfortable but stylish dresses.

I love bringing women together and helping them find new styles, patterns and colors to wear. LuLaRoe tends to inspire people to become more confident. Each piece is a limited edition print and I love seeing women discover their own style all while having fun and making new friends.

The LuLaRoe culture is to Bless & Serve others. I take that to heart and I’m so proud to be a part of this company.

Because my business is in my home it is very personal. My customers have become Friends and our kids play together. My hope is that everyone feels welcome and accepted in my home Boutique.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I’m so thankful to be on the LuLaRoe Teams I’m in. My trainer Mary Cobb has been an amazing coach, counselor and friend through this last year.

I’m also incredibly thankful for the LuLaRoe CEOs, Mark & Deanne Stidham for the opportunity.

I have started my own Team called ‘Hope Warriors’ and am training other women on how to build their own successful LuLaRoe Boutiques.

“LuLaRoe, where through fashion we create freedom, serve others, and strengthen families. A place where lives are being blessed and dreams achieved through love, confidence, purpose and growth.”
