Today we’d like to introduce you to Alisha D.
Alisha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always been interested in the art of barbering but my path was already set out for me. I was a star basketball player in high school and obtained a full-ride scholarship to Coastal Carolina University to play basketball. After college, I went on to play professionally overseas in Spain but even though basketball was my first love I always found myself so intrigued by the way barbers and stylists could draw, shade, color, write and manipulate the hair of their clients to be in certain styles.
Several years later and many ups and downs I moved to Dallas where I was able to obtain my class A barber license. I LOVE barbering so much not just because it allows me to express myself creatively through the art, but it also gives me an opportunity to meet people from all different walks of life. Being a barber stylist is one of the best decisions I have ever made!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I am a former professional basketball player and college stand out. After retiring from basketball I went through a deep depression because I felt when I retired that I lost my identity in the game of basketball and didn’t really know what I would do outside of it. I had a college degree but after playing basketball since the age of six until 22 years of age, it was my safe space and I had no idea what to do next.
I ate an egg a day for about three months after returning from playing overseas. Lost a significant amount of weight. Worked dead-end jobs was never satisfied. So I started praying and aligning myself spiritually. I asked God to give me something to do with my hands. And about three years later God gave me barbering!

D. LISH Cutz is an experience. I do work in the community for single mothers to help them with the cost of hair services for their children. To me, I feel that it is our duty as human beings to pick others up and lend a helping hand when we can. Currently, I am servicing a single mother with a family of four boys for free for the entire school year to make sure that not only they look good but they feel good. I am actually always looking to bless a family in need! Help me to help you!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck but I do believe in alignment and blessings. Everything that we go through sets us up for our ultimate purpose. Everything happens for a reason and I am grateful to be here experiencing blessings on top of blessings !!
