Meet Allen Ent of Ent Photography in Keller

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allen Ent.

Allen, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Photography started for me as a hobby. My wife purchased my first camera in 2012 as a gift. We were expecting our first child and I had thought it would just be used to document every moment of our new family. The more I used the camera and got used to the settings and learning functions I became more intrigued. My hobby turned into a passion that I couldn’t get enough of. The more I learned the more comfortable I was. I started taking pictures of everything and everyone. I knew I had this passion but wasn’t sure which direction to go with it. There are photographers for every scenario but most only specialize in a certain type or style. I have always struggled with being creative but I enjoy meeting strangers and being social. My personality shaped my passion to get into portrait photography and even further to apply dramatic lighting to create portraits with depth. When I reached out to other professionals the most common advice I got was to just practice, practice, practice. So I did. I have watched countless hours of YouTube tutorials and spent even more time practice shooting. I have developed my art a lot through the years and am happy with the results. It is always a rocky road but the results are worth the struggle.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Photography is an art form, making it subjective. You always want everyone to love your work, but as a portrait photographer the only person that truly matters is the subject. The person the art is made for to create a timeless memory that can be cherished forever by generations to come. Holding momentum and not getting discouraged in the process is the biggest struggle for me. There will always be struggles, but how one deals with them is what defines them.

Ent Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Ent Photography specializes in portrait photography. This usually includes family, couple, children and senior portraits. I have also been shooting a few models recently to get new material and work more towards beauty shots. I love to shoot in the dark with dramatic lighting. If I could shoot at dusk all the time I would! I’m very proud to have made it this far. In the photography world there are a lot of hobbyists that give their go and decide it isn’t for them. It is definitely a lot of work to not only learn about a camera, the settings and everything involved with retouching but also the marketing, accounting, designing, etc.. I will always put 115% into a session to get the best results, even if that means staying later for a session or going above and beyond to create some affects a certain client wants. I also give away sessions monthly on my Facebook page. I know not everyone that is deserving is able to afford a portrait session of their loved ones, so this gives them a chance to have something to cherish forever!

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me would be inspiring someone to make a change in this world. I wouldn’t be here now if it weren’t from inspiration and helpful advice from fellow photographers. One day, I will truly inspire someone with my art and that will be the most successful moment of my photographic career. I would love to be able to teach photography in the future as well as work full time doing what I love.
