Today we’d like to introduce you to Allen Ramany.
Allen, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Everything started in my teenage years cutting in the garage for a couple of bucks just for fun, I never thought it’d be my career now. My cousin Phillip Keosy, owner of The Barber Lounge in Arkansas, inspired and motivated me to pursue my career of barbering. After years of working a regular 9-5 job, I decided to turn a leap of faith and invest in becoming a barber. At the time, my barber Joe Hernandez, owner of Legendz Barber Lounge which is where I work now, gave me that final push I needed. He said I had that barber eye due to my attention to detail on my haircuts, I’m a very specific person. Shortly after that, I enrolled at Kalibur Barber College & had the pleasure to learn under my instructor Joe Balboa who helped me get my barber license. Through barber school, I attended barber seminars & competed in barber battles. All that helped me sharpen my skills and grow within my talent.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It was never a smooth road to success it took hard work. Working graveyard shifts and going to school right after work took a lot of effort. School along with homework took my time away from my family. There was a point in which my family’s economic status was compromised but I had to push through all that to be where I’m at now.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I’m a barber at Legendz Barber Lounge where there’s over ten very talented barbers ready to serve the public. We’re all about providing the best services for families to make them look good for any occasion. As the only Asian barber in my shop, I’m well known for the Asian community here in DFW. A few of my specialties are combover fades, artwork designs and tapers. Really, I can do just about anything with all kinds of hair which is what I mainly take pride in at my job because we service anyone no matter their hair type or ethnicity. I believe that what sets me apart from others is that I take pride in my culture for becoming a barber and learning how to network
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a very hyper-active kid. The neighborhood I lived in was surrounded by gangs and violence so I was always getting caught up in trouble. My father was very hard on me because he wanted me to do better. Therefore I tried to find other ways to keep myself occupied. Although graffitiing isn’t exactly the best way to demonstrate my passion for arts, that’s what I’d kill my time on, art was my escape from reality. I remember channeling my passion for haircuts and seeing the outcome of my vision come to life. It brought me happy seeing all my close friends enjoy their haircuts.
