Today we’d like to introduce you to Allisiana Davis.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Allisiana. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always loved writing and helping others. In 2018, I signed with a company to release my debut book and it backfired. Instead of locking up my work, I decided to re-release it under self-publishing. This choice ultimately paid off because now my book is worldwide in distribution. I decided that I wanted to form a publishing company in honor of my late grandmother because she was of good faith and integrity. I believe these two notions should always be thought of when dealing with people’s work because we put a lot in our craft. Because I was so successful in self-publishing, I wanted to do the same for others.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’ve had my days where I’ve truly wanted to just throw in the towel, but I remember the promises I made myself and my Bigmama. When I had to fire my publicist for stealing my money and lying on my name, it really troubled me for a few weeks. After a reality check, I picked myself up and began researching how to effectively self publish.
I think a smooth road is a bit of a stretch. You have to definitely work for all that you want to accomplish.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My company is in the works, but it will reflect a media and self-publishing company. I want people to shamelessly show off their craft — whether that be in art, music, writing, photography and still own their publishing rights. I’ve learned that trusting someone to publish for you can be scary… especially if integrity is lacked. I’m proud that my book has sold over 500 copies since I re-released it. It keeps me going on most days because it serves as a reminder that I did not fail. I think my faith in my craft is what sets me apart from others. We often have faith in ourselves and others, but I truly believe the message I’m leaving in my books is what makes my craft a bit unique.
What were you like growing up?
I was really shy up until college. As a kid, I witnessed a lot of things children shouldn’t see — so it made me a bit emotional growing up. I was always writing, though. My Bigmama gave me my first journal when I was about eight and I would write music and poetry in it. I’d spend hours listening to different artists such to format my own unique sound. In college, I branched out a bit more when I started to DJ. It gave me an opportunity to challenge my shyness and also work with music. I’ve been interested in music for so long that I’m just now tapping back into it as far as recording. I grew up in a musical family, so I’m excited for things like my first EP releasing this year.
