Meet Allison Chu of Dallisoneats in Plano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Chu.

Allison, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Post-college, I was constantly trying to find new restaurants all around the DFW Metroplex with my friends. They eventually told me I should start a food blog with all of the pictures I took on my phone (because I’m a basic millennial and I like to take pictures of aesthetically pleasing things to show my friends).

I’ve always admired the way that food brings people from all backgrounds together and creates moments and/or an experience for us that turn into memories. Instead of getting constant questions from my friends about where certain food is, I now have my own “platform” to share that with not only my friends, but DFW locals, visitors, or really anyone that just likes seeing good food.

Without the influential people in my life, I wouldn’t have been motivated to turn my own passions into my own projects. I delved deeper into photography, which has now become a huge part of who I am. Combining these two loves in my life resulted in the creation of my food Instagram not too long ago (you know, just more basic millennial things).

Has it been a smooth road?
With every hobby comes challenges. Most of my struggles along the way were internal, thinking I wasn’t good enough or would never be as good/popular as my favorite food pages out there. It is difficult for me not to compare myself to others and believe that the work I put out isn’t to par with the people who have inspired me. But then I eventually realized that having my own style is what sets me apart from everyone, and if I can share my joy for food with at least one person who cares or likes what I do, then I’ve done my job.

It’s super cool to me that Instagram has been a platform that has allowed people like us to be whoever we want to be and share our unique voice to whoever wants to listen. Whether that’s a food page, fashion, general photography, everyday lifestyle, etc., we’ve all been influencers or have been influenced in some way at some point in our lives through this amazing network of people. I’m thankful that my own struggles have led me to the realization that this platform is something we can each completely make our own.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
Well, if you go to my Instagram, it’s pretty self-explanatory — I specialize in all types of food photography around the DFW metroplex, and sometimes I post food from my travels as well. What I’m most proud of has been my commitment to learning photography along the way and dedicating time to being a better food photographer with each new post. I think what sets me apart is that I have a unique take on each of my photos and that I share a different perspective and opinion not seen on other pages.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love that there are constantly new restaurants popping up around DFW. There is always a new place to try new food. There is also so much history in Dallas, but at the same time, areas around us are constantly evolving, growing, and thriving. The hardest part about having so many options is narrowing it down and choosing where to actually go! Sometimes, the commutes can be a little far just because of the sheer size of the DFW Metroplex, but it’s worth the drive if my stomach is happy at the end of the day.
