Today we’d like to introduce you to Ally Dodoo.
Ally, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Wow, how I got started in event planning is only by faith. I asked God to show me my purpose and also to help me give back to the world. My first step towards that journey was producing a fashion show in honor of the dress for success program run by the Genesis Women’s Shelter. I had so much fun producing this show and we actually raised a lot of money for our cause, after that event I was hooked. At the time, I was a catering coordinator for a large finance firm where I helped with so many other corporate events and nonprofit events. Nowadays, I am a full-time event planner, I’ve officially quit corporate America to follow my purpose.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Quote from Theodore Roosevelt is: “Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty… I have never in my life envied a human being who led an easy life. I have envied a great many people who led difficult lives and led them well.” It has been a struggle every step of the way in my personal life and business life because event money is not guaranteed or steady. You literally have to keep pushing events out week after week to feed your family. No worries though I’m blessed, booked & busy. Event Planners have no time to stress about the struggles of being a freelance planner, the most important thing is to find that work-life balance, take some time for your self and take a few trips with your family.

I am most known for my organization and the knowledge I have about the event industry. I am currently teaching a 12 part series at the Business Lounge Dallas about how to become an event planner. The class is offered the 2nd Thursday of every month and tickets are available on Eventbrite. #shameless plug right yeah, I know but please come enjoy all the ins and outs of what it takes to be an event planner in today’s market. The other thing that sets me apart is my experience with exclusive events. I worked VIP events for the Dallas Cowboys Stadium for three years, I’ve worked events in the entertainment industry and I’m currently working on one of the largest outdoor all-white parties in the world but shhh, I can’t talk much about that now. Please stay tuned for your invite because it’s going to be huge. I’m most proud to be doing what I love.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future involve becoming a corporation, in fact, my next series will be about the steps I took to become a large corporation in God’s name, I will meet this goal by 2025. My vision includes books, YouTube videos, my own nonprofit organization, and my very own collection of party supplies to name a few. If you can dream it, you can have it. With the plans I have, I will always continue to share my knowledge and experiences with everyone on how they can start their own successful event planning business.
