Today we’d like to introduce you to Alma Olvera.
Alma, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As a little girl I was an animal lover at heart, growing up I would tell my parents how I wanted to be a veterinarian but I decided that just working with animals was enough for me, as long as I got to cuddle and play with as many pets as I could. How this company came about is when I was going to school as a Veterinarian Assistant, there was a program where we could pick which one we wanted to do and pet sitting/dog walking was one of them. Since I love working with animals I told myself why not, once I finished the program and became certified I opened originally known as Amy’s Pet Walking Service in 2014 but changed it to Alma’s Pet Walking Service last year.
Has it been a smooth road?
After opening Alma’s Pet Walking Service I came upon many bumpy roads and finding clients was one of them. Many pet owners are skeptical of who they let into their house and care for their pets, but earning their trust is the most rewarding thing for me, especially earning the pets trust. When you earn the pets trust you earn the clients as well, and that’s the most important thing for me.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
What I provide for the client’s pet is dog walking, pet sitting, small animal care. After our meet and greet is done, I go into the client’s house and care for the pet, it can be a dog or cat even a rat and I do more than just walk in and do the to do list, pet walked check, dog fed check. No, I do a lot more than that, I play with the pet, associate with the pet, give the pet medication if needed, clean the owner’s back yard of any forgotten feces they may have overlooked, And I know what people think, but every dog walker does that, I actually roll around in the grass with the pet. I want to make sure that pet can’t tell mommy and daddy are gone at work, I take that out of their mind and just have a great time with them, all while the owner gets updates on how their pet is doing.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Irving is most definitely a great place to build your business, anything is possible anywhere. You just have to put your mind to it. Reach for the stars and don’t stop there. I am a huge believer that anything is possible in life. The person just has to go for it and keep running with it.

- Dog walk & pet sitting Monday- Friday for one pet 30 min-$80
- Dog walk & pet sitting Monday-Friday for two pets 30 min-$90
- Dog walk only daily rate 30 min-$25
- Pet sitting only daily rate 20 min-$20
