Today we’d like to introduce you to Alvionna Brewster.
Hi Alvionna, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
By trade, I am a registered nurse with experience in cardiac medicine, preventative care and wellness management. I started to a small crafting business back in 2012 as a way of earning extra income, being creative and escaping the pressures and stressors of healthcare. In 2015, the vision was born to create a unique community that would connect black nurses in order to mentor, uplift and encourage one another. It started with a simple social media platform where nurse entrepreneurs shared their stories of how they got started. Black nurses who were interested in entrepreneurship felt comfortable reaching out and obtaining resources that they may not have gotten elsewhere. This experience has led me to speaking, writing, consulting and other business ventures. My ultimate goal is to help people to live out their best life, whatever that entails. I am very fortunate to be in the position that I am in because it has afforded me opportunities to impact many people from various walks of life.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Not at all. I have endured some really tough times, but I credit my faith, great familial support and trusted friendships that have gotten me through. As a child, I dealt with bullying and low self-esteem. As an adult, I have dealt with close deaths, weight issues, relationship challenges and professional hurdles, to name a few. My biggest breakthrough came in 2012 when I felt like I was at an emotional rock bottom. It was at that point that I put my foot down and was determined to live my life freely, healthier and without the emotional baggage. I have soared ever since.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Black Nurse Entrepreneurs?
Black Nurse Entrepreneurs is a premier networking organization dedicated to providing the best resources to black nurses interested in launching, building and growing their entrepreneurial endeavors worldwide. My primary goals are to connect people with valuable information and to provide a powerful atmosphere in order to do this. This organization has a current following of about 20K across social media platforms. I am proudest of following my calling to serve my community by providing resources that have helped black nurses create generational wealth for years to come, positively impacting our communities of color by providing safe and trusted medical care and by helping black nurses to live out their dreams. What sets me apart is that this is a powerful platform solely dedicated to black nurses in entrepreneurship. I set a tone of morality and ethical practices. I also challenge my community to be servant leaders and change agents. This is important because nursing does not teach entrepreneurship.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I want readers to understand the power of following your calling. By following exactly what I was called to do has created an impact that I couldn’t even have imagined. I would like to encourage people to stay focused and dedicated on their goals, passion and purpose. It is important not to give up. Success is literally on the other side of failure. You must keep pushing forward. Don’t let anything stop you from being successful or living out your purpose.
