Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Reeves.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Alyssa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My love for art and stationery started at a young age. We moved around a lot as a family, so I was drawing and writing letters to my friends I’d moved away from. After college, I was working as a graphic designer and art director and designing invitations for friends’ weddings and parties on the side. In 2003, I started Paradise Design Co. to focus on designing custom invitations and it’s been a huge blessing.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road hasn’t always been smooth. There are so many ups and downs as a small business owner. I’ve had to learn to set boundaries so I don’t work too much, to find ways to refuel my creativity and to learn how much to step out creatively to give my clients the very best work I can while still reflecting their tastes, their style and the overall feel of their events.
Please tell us about Paradise Design.
Our specialty is dream invitations designed just for you! I handle the whole process of dreaming up a vision with our clients, then design and custom art, then finally all the production needed to bring the vision to life. I love getting to know clients personally, so my designs can really reflect them. That is what I’m best known for – caring and creative personal service, details galore and the ability to create a vision for the whole invitation process. A lot of times, elements of my design are incorporated into the design of the event and that is something I’m very proud of.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for me is when my clients tell me their friends have ooohed and aahed over their invitations and have told them that they reflect the client’s style. I also measure success by how well I’ve served the client, not just with design or art, but with caring about them and their family personally. Relationships that have spanned the whole time I’ve been in business — that is success to me.
