Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda England.
Amanda, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I attended UT Dallas, where I received a Bachelor of Science in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, and a Master of Science in Communication Disorders.
After graduating, I began my career as a school-based Speech-Language Pathologist in Plano ISD, where I worked for two years serving children in elementary, middle, and high school. I then worked at a private practice in North Dallas, where I served preschoolers and school-age children for the next two years. I loved working closely with families in the private practice setting, and really enjoyed the individual attention I was able to provide for my clients in a one-on-one setting.
In June of 2017, I officially opened Out and About Speech. As the owner and sole clinician in the practice, I am proud to provide specialized services to my clients in their homes or at their schools. This allows working families to have more flexibility in their schedules and allows me to provide more specific advice for families on how they can help their child succeed outside of the speech therapy setting.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
So far, my biggest challenge has been marketing my services to families! However, as my caseload has continued to grow, I have discovered more opportunities to reach out to potential clients and educate individuals in my community about the importance of speech therapy for children with communication challenges.
Out and About Speech – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in serving children with hearing impairment, late talkers, and children who need assistance with developing appropriate social skills. I also serve adults with hearing impairment.
In addition to these specialties, I also serve pediatric clients with a large variety of speech and language concerns. Because of my connections in the community, I am also happy to refer families to other specialists if a child needs services outside of my areas of practice!
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
For me, success is helping children communicate with their peers, teachers, and family members more effectively!
