Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Stewart.
Amanda, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Well, I always had a passion and an eye for Fashion. I was always the “extra” person when arriving at events or parties. I just always took pride in my appearance. I was and often still is the go-to for all my friends when they are in need of clothing(Fashion) advice. However, I never knew in what capacity I would pursue Fashion. Growing up, I wanted to attend Fashion School in New York, but just never pursued it. It was mainly one of those things you just mention but never have any intention on following through with. I always get complimented on my style and my bold statements.
During my college years, I was featured in our school newspaper for “Best Dressed Freshman” and other Fashion accolades. Fast forward some years and post-graduation from THEE Jackson State University, the company I was working for approved to transfer me to Charlotte, NC. After relocating to Charlotte and working in the Telecommunication Department for ATT, I suddenly realized “this is NOT for me.” After praying for God to deliver me and promote me to something else, we shortly received the news our contract wasn’t getting renewed and guess what? Yep! We all got laid off. You talking about overjoyed, Whew! I was so elated. And from that season of unemployment, I birth my baby, Lavish Her Boutique, which I didn’t even name. An awesome friend of mine by the name of Marcus Hamlin called me one day after several failed attempts of me and other friends trying to secure a name, he called me out the blue and said “I got it….. Lavish Her”! And when I heard it, it was like music to my ears. I instantly embraced it, and the next day went to register.
Has it been a smooth road?
Has it been a smooth road? ABSOLUTELY not! LOL! But I can say it’s been a rewarding one. I thoroughly enjoy what I do. It gives me SO much Joy! The road to being an entrepreneur is never easy. The sacrifices, the long days, the support, the slow days, the frustration, the competition, and soooo much all play an intricate role on the success of your business. But through it ALL, you have to push through and remember the reason you started. Although, it looks like starting an Online Boutique is a “fad,” it’s truly not for the faint at heart. Because when things don’t go as planned and the sales not coming like you anticipated then its easy to give up. As for me, the biggest challenge I have faced is inconsistency and just getting my brand to the masses. In the past, I have started and then slowly faded away. But thanks be to God, my customers have remained loyal. Soon as I announce I am about to RElaunch, I get the message(s) of excitement. Being a new resident to Dallas, Im just now starting to REbrand myself here. I came here for a teaching position, and it was totally new. So with the new career and new residence, I wasn’t able to sustain my business like I wanted too. Now I am going into my 4th year teaching( WOW) and now have a good sense of the city, I am ready to RElaunch and get Lavish Her known throughout the DFW area.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Lavish Her Boutique story. Tell us more about the business.
Lavish Her Boutique is a chic, classy, contemporary Ecommerce Boutique. We specialize in providing affordable, trendy merchandise to women all over the US. Lavish Her is known for its exclusive pieces and exemplary customer service. Although we are solely online, I still want to ensure my customers have the most amazing experience yet. And that includes a clean, user-friendly site with efficient checkout. As well as always be available to answer any questions and being in communication(email blast) with them about new arrivals, sales, and/or just an email to encourage those on my mailing list. I am most proud of the support I receive and the connections I have made. I take pride in my business. I travel to tradeshows, including the big one in Vegas( Magic), I travel to the Fashion District in LA, I research upcoming trends in magazines, I attend Fashion Shows, and a host of other fashionably catered events to ensure my business is always updated with the best and set apart. I also have a personal Blog session on the website, and these sections is just a collection of life situations that I personally write just to encourage and motives the readers( and majority myself). With the plethora of online boutiques that are out, I fear none. I wholeheartedly believe what God has for Lavish Her WILL truly be for Lavish Her… We stand strong on our motto, “Fashion is ones OWN individuality!!
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
