Today we’d like to introduce you to Amari Wilson.
Hi Amari, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I began Cosmetology at Duncanville High School. I knew I didn’t necessarily like to do hair so I began to focus on makeup and waxing. Once I graduated with my license, I went off to my dream college, The University of Oklahoma, during the summer of 2016. I easily could’ve began working in a salon, but I didn’t. Instead, I worked at Forever 21 my first semester of college. On Thanksgiving break, I had a discussion with my mother and family making the choice to move back to Dallas. When I moved back, I told myself I’d just transfer locations, but it didn’t go as planned. My nearest mall had just taken Forever 21 out, and we’re adding new makeup stores, NYX Professional Makeup being one. I applied! About three days went by, I was hired. Excited I was. Originally, I applied for the sales associate position but after just three months, I was promoted to Key Holder Manager. As time progressed at NYX, I was the girl known for the “no makeup, makeup look,” focusing on brows, complexion, and lashes! My lashes weren’t NYX, but they didn’t know that. The entire time I had been wearing lash extensions and thats why they looked so natural.
On July 19, 2018, I received a phone call from my aunt, LaTasha Jackson, basically saying, “Drive to Oklahoma, I’m teaching you how to do lash extensions!” On July 20, 2018, I was in OKC learning along with my big sister as my model. Very afraid but eager to learn, I got it down in 1 day. When I made it back to Dallas on the 21st, I practiced on a mannequin every chance I got and finally, practice made perfect.
Now in 2021, I’m still a full-time student at The University of North Texas at Dallas, graduating in December and an eyelash technician. I’m grateful for all that let me practice until I got the full technique. I thank all the clients I’ve had over the three years that have allowed MarWil LashYou to allow them to “wake up like this” everyday.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
In the beginning, I wasn’t consistent when it came to posting content. Funny enough, I’m in college for Digital Content creating and couldn’t do it for my own business. My clients, family, and friends would always tell me I don’t give myself enough credit for my work. I realized that when I began to post more content, I received more followers, and more followers led to more bookings.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
