Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Brumsey.
Amber, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m a plus size model and being plus size all my life we’ve never had anything in Dallas to accommodate our curvier figure! I’ve always wanted to help those more curvier women find themselves, gain confidence and learn to love themselves. I truly never knew how I would do it and how it would come about but I knew it was something that just HAD TO BE DONE!! In October of 2017 I began to get sick and didn’t know why! I was sick for 3months with no explanation and in January 2018 I was back in forth in the hospital only to be diagnosed with lupus January 21, 2018. In that time I began taking steroids and gaining so much weight that I even began to look at myself differently! While being bedridden for almost 2 weeks I began to tell myself that no matter what I was still beautiful big and all! After a couple of days I kept saying to myself that MY BIG WAS BEAUTIFUL and then it dawned on me that this would be the name of my organization to help more curvier women love the skin they are in. When forming this organization I thought about who and what I wanted to target. My main goal is to give plus size women a chance and build a platform for us to stand out and be treated EQUAL!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s definitely been a struggle building this organization due to my sickness and sometimes having to cancel things or push events back. It’s also been a challenge for our curvier women to admit that they want the help and really want to build confidence because no one has ever offered to bring it out of them but give me until the end of 2018 and our curvier, plus size women will dominate the DFW and many more cities and states in the future.
