Meet Amber Easter-Walker of Jean’s Cleaning Services in Downtown Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Easter-Walker.

Amber, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Born and raised in Dallas Texas, I am an entrepreneur and owner of Jean’s Cleaning Services and a mother of one son. Back in July of 2014, while visiting a friend in Houston TX, some friends and I were discussing business plans. Which some of them already had their own business or they were starting it. They use to laugh at me because no matter who’s house I came over, I always managed to pick up a broom and sweep or just clean something. So they suggested I start a cleaning business because of my urge to clean. So at that point, I did take it into consideration.

I still waited another four years until I actually started to pursue starting my own cleaning business, simply because of my doubts within myself and not having any clue how to start or run a business. It wasn’t until my friends started to guide me in the right direction of where to start.

On my birthday in November of 2017, I decided that my gift to myself would be something that would benefit my son & I, future wise. So I went downtown and purchased my permit to claim ownership of my business. Which is named after my grandmother Doris Jean, who passed years ago back in 2008. So I named my business Jean’s Cleaning Services in honor of her. When I was younger my mom would not let me leave home to do anything fun if my room was not cleaned, believe me, my friends can vouch for that as well. If it wasn’t cleaned right she would correct me and show me the proper way to clean up behind myself. Thank God for my mother for starting me out young on cleaning up behind myself, which she does also go with me to clean places when she can. Having a nice smelling and clean home or office is the best, it’s so relaxing if you ask me.

It still wasn’t until December of 2018, which was my grandmother’s birthday month, that I actually started to take another leap of Faith and truly start promoting my business and taking clients for cleaning appointments. I remember being referred to go clean a place for someone. I was so nervous, hoping and praying that my cleaning met their needs. I just started to get in my zone as if I were at home cleaning. Plus that person trusted me enough to clean their place while they were away out of town leaving me their key to go in. This was no friend or family member either. So for someone to trust me enough to go in their home and do a cleaning, that made me feel really good. I felt like I was doing something big. From that point on I felt a little better each time I would go clean a place.

Has it been a smooth road?
Granted my journey has been a little bit of a challenge at times. From me currently still working in corporate while maintaining my business as well. Simply because I do have bills and products that I have to take care of in order to help continue building my business and making ends meet at home. As a single mother, I have to also arrange and make time around my child’s schedule as well. I have lost new clientele coming in due to my work schedule at my corporate job through the weekdays and again my schedule for my child. So most of my cleanings are scheduled on the weekends, it just depends on my availability. At times it does get a little overwhelming and sometimes my body shuts down when I am consistently on the go. By the grace of God and me just putting my mind to it, I manage to carry on to make my business successful.

I have a really good support team behind me. Having people around you that genuinely believe in your success is truly important. I had to learn to believe in myself before anyone else would. My dad once told me, “it’s so much more out in the world, we just have to make ourselves available to receive the blessings”. Knowing that we live in a world where others are promoting may be the same business can sometimes give you doubts about who will support yours. I learned to just focus on my brand and continue promoting my business because what’s meant for me, will be just for me no matter what.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I specialize in residential/commercial cleanings. Jean’s Cleaning Services is here to help keep your home or business place sanitized and neatly cleaned when you may not have the time to really do so. Leaving your place So Fresh So Jean! What sets me apart from others is that I am not in competition with anyone else because I hope we all win and succeed with our businesses. I love learning new techniques as well as giving help with anything. Collaboration is always great!

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I definitely see myself being fully committed, meaning no more corporate work will be involved, just strictly working full time with my business. I also see myself adding more people to my team that enjoys cleaning just as much as I do, to continue moving forward in making Jean’s Cleaning Services successful. I see many different businesses surfacing, people finding their gift and taking steps on using them to their full potential. There may be a lot of different collaborations of different brands coming together. So a lot of entrepreneurs arising in the near future.
