Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber England.
Amber, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Over the years, I have cultivated a variety of skills in the marketing spectrum with a focus on digital.
I attended college with an athletic and academic scholarship at Northwood University in West Palm Beach, Florida where I eventually graduated with a Bachelors’s Degree in Marketing and Advertising in 2012. I was also a member of the ‘Ad Club’ and won a “Addy” Award for ‘Consumer to Trade Publication’ through American Advertising Federation.
Shortly after graduating, I had to make a decision on whether to pursue my career in South Florida or move back home to Dallas. It was by chance that I went onto internship.com and landed an internship out of 250 candidates for an International fashion label in Dallas, Texas. After working as an intern for a few months and opening the first location in the United States, my role became full-time as a Marketing Assistant.
I was then headhunted by a local fashion startup where my skill set grew immensely and expanded into E-Commerce. After working in fashion marketing for a few years, I wanted to expand my brand portfolio with non-fashion related companies so I decided it was time to pursue my career at a Digital Marketing agency. My first opportunity was at an award-winning agency, Dallas-based Social Revolt. From there, I was able to realize a lifelong dream to work in NYC where I took a position with a leading agency, Boucher & Co.
After my experience in agencies, my brand portfolio expanded from fashion to beauty to real estate to hospitality. I returned to Dallas feeling confident in my experience and ready to venture off on my own, so I launched Commix Marketing.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggle has been starting from scratch all over again. When I moved to New York City, I sold everything I owned and returned to Dallas with two suitcases (overweight, of course). Being as independent as I am, I struggled with asking help from others and when I did ask for help it lowered my self-esteem. I had to find ways to remain confident in myself and not letting the situation or stress get the best of me.
Please tell us about Commix Marketing.
Commix Marketing is a boutique agency focused on Digital Marketing, Social Media and Public Relations. We believe in effectively integrating core digital strategy and meaningful communication in order to maximize an organization’s brand presence digitally.
I truly believe what sets Commix Marketing apart from others is the ability to effectively integrate a range of digital strategy and strategic communication, such as social media management and public relations. Behind every effort, the client’s brand is taken into consideration and is applied through a strategy to develop brand awareness to its customers online.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I have been playing soccer since I was four years old and some of my best memories are my successes as an athlete. I played throughout my teen years into college, plus a couple of seasons in the Women’s Premier Soccer League. Sport gave me the confidence I needed in life. It taught to fight, to be resilient, and never ever give up.
