Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Evans.
Amber, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was asked to be a part of my first photo shoot when I was 18 years old. I was working at a clothing store called “Body Central” and the manager at the time was starting her own modeling organization. She asked me to be a part of her journey and I declined. At the time I didn’t see myself as a model, since the age of 9, I’ve always dreamed of being a runway model and here is the opportunity finally presenting itself to me and I get cold feet. After talking to my mom, she convinced me that this had to be my time. I later agreed to be a part of her journey and it turned out to be the best decision of my life. Photo shoots turned into fashion shows and fashion shows turned into more photo shoots and before I knew it I was traveling internationally with what became my modeling career. All my life, my entire family has been calling me “America’s Next Top Model”, and now here I am fulfilling that dream. In 2017 I submitted an application to audition for America’s Next Top Model. Unfortunately, I did not receive a call back and this really made me question my talents. A few weeks later, I was called by a modeling agency in Negril, Jamaica to be in a bikini pageant. This only showed me that God makes no mistakes, and more importantly that when one door closes another one opens. Now, here I am in 2018 at the age of 23, this career has given me the opportunity to be featured in 4 magazines, compete internationally in a beauty pageant, be interviewed by one of the biggest radio stations in Dallas, TX, and walk for some of Texas finest designers.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This road has been as bumpy as a star crunch! Although I have my successes to glorify, they came with plenty rejection. I have been turned down by a number of agencies, photographers, as well as being rejected to walk in a number of fashion shows. I am a 5’9, skinny, tattooed, pierced out chocolate female with big eyes and a smile that shows every tooth in my mouth. I’ve been told a handful of degrading things about my image and my appearance but I have a strong support system that would NEVER give me the opportunity to doubt myself and I thank God that he has surrounded me with such uplifting and caring individuals.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Amber Ta’Shay The Model – what should we know?
I am a published model, both print and runway, based in Dallas, TX, however, I do travel! I am mostly known for my fierce and strong facial posing. I tend to keep this strong, fierce, smizing facial expression that people love to see. I am most proud of the things that I have accomplished with being a freelance model. I learned early on how to use my peers and my resources to get where I need to be in the modeling industry and even though I know that I have a long way to go, I am proud of the progress that I have made so far. I feel like the thing that sets me apart from others is my humbleness and my personality. Most models tend to let their accomplishments get to their head and it shows when they’re working with others. I once heard someone say “You can’t act Hollywood towards people you’re working with and you’ve never been to Hollywood”. With the accomplishments that I have made, I always remain humble and I will never forget where I came from because I know at any moment it could all come to an end and there’s so much that I have not yet accomplished. I appreciate every photographer, every designer, every model coordinator, and every model that I have and will work with because in a way they all teach me something new about this industry and about myself.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel the most important characteristic to my success is patience. Not everything is going to happen when you want it to happen, no matter how successful you are, you’re still on God’s timing. Once I discovered that, it was up from there!
