Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Wallace.
Amber, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My current chapter started in the beginning of 2019. I could call it a journey but I believe life is a journey filled with chapters you narrate. I began my weight loss journey for a better way of living spirit, soul and body. My goal was to become healthy and whole. Shortly into this chapter, I began realizing true change starts from within. I started noticing the pounds shedding and the confidence building. Soon -20 lbs turned into -50lbs, then turning into -97lbs, which I’m currently sitting at.
During this time, I decided I wanted to create a stream of revenue that would help fund my non-profit for the homeless. Gaining more confidence in myself really inspired me to share this. That’s when I started pursuing plus-size modeling. Modeling became a platform to inspire and motivate those who feel less than and unloved. I’ve known from a young age that my life’s purpose was to be in service to others. This platform helped propel that goal into fruition. This past year has been filled with many ups but also some of my greatest lows. Through it all, I’ve learned that living a life of truth, balance and dedication to who you are and what you want to accomplish, anything is possible. You are your biggest limitation but even greater than that. You are your greatest success!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s definitely not been smooth and bumpy is an understatement lol. It was the day of my first photo shoot. Some would find themselves nervous, maybe anxious or excited. I found myself holding back tears of hurt, confusion, anger to name a few. The day before, I made the unfortunate mistake to drink and drive. I was not only arrested but I found myself jobless and homeless in less than 42 hours.
Everything within me wanted to quit and give up on life. The only thing that kept me going was like my other struggles, one day someone will hear this and not quit. Someone will rediscover their worth and be that for someone else. I had every excuse. I grew up in a broken household, fractured my spine, attempted suicide, overcame depression, lost -97lbs, been arrested and through it all, I made a conscious decision to allow this to redefine me, not define me. Obstacles are like weights. They can either weigh you down or help you build more strength.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Spending Christmas with my grandma. I’m blessed enough to still have her alive, even those she’s over 1,400 miles away. She always went all out for Christmas. Baking weeks in advance, dancing to every Christmas carol in her kitchen, decorating her house, playing board games while the cookies were baking. I call her my living angel. She helped raise me and give me a safe place in her house and arms. I still wish I could go back in time and enjoy those moments just a little more.
