Ambra, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I always get asked, “How did you come up with the name Query Events?” In short, Query Events was founded on the notions of a bride’s uncertainties. What’s your “Query,” what’s your question? Come to Query Events with all of your uncertainties – all your queries – and we will turn them into gorgeous affairs.
Ambra Costner-Portillo, Owner and Creative Director for Fort Worth based Query Events has been in business since 2011. Born and raised right here in Fort Worth, Ambra has a true love for everything that encompasses Cow-Town. After her time at Texas A&M University and working side by side with the top planners in Central Texas, Ambra moved back to her hometown to chase her love affair with all things wedding.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smooth road? I’m hearing roars of laughter from small business owners all over the nation!
No, the road has not been smooth but as I do my absolute best to always remind myself, the joy is in the journey. Every mistake or twist in a perfectly planned day makes myself and my team better, wiser and more prepared for our next rodeo. The struggles that I have encountered are those that most small business owners face: too little or too much staff, bookkeeping (this struggle is real and never-ending) and contract systems. In my company’s 6 short years, the most difficult challenge has been related to creativity. Most days I can curate and design with the best of them but there are other days when I struggle to put even the simplest of projects together.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Query Events – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Query Events excels in building a unique and personalized story for each event, working with the best vendors, products and spaces available. We take delight in not only helping to establish a personalized concept but in designing the oh so important floral piece. Flowers are such a special and imperative part of every function and we relish in a gorgeous design. Our ultimate satisfaction is being a part of a unique concept from start to finish – everything from building floor plans to designing blooms. Having a such a huge part in the overall design composition coupled with my team handling the day of production really sets us apart from your average wedding planner!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I have skinned down my offerings and are only working with clients who value bespoke event designs. Giving my schedule the ability to really focus on the couples who want to concentrate on the details has been such a valuable change for my company. We are also focusing our attention on other gorgeous location and working to beef up our destination portfolio!
