Meet Amina Konaté

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amina Konaté.

Amina Konaté

Hi Amina, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I started dancing when I was five years old, and since then, it has had a huge place in my life. After high school, I decided to take it to the professional level and was honored to be accepted into the Rudra Béjart School in Switzerland, that I attended for two years.

I moved to New York in 2021, where I got the chance to go to the Ailey School for one year, which allowed me to dive even more into the modern dance. Currently, I am freelancing all over the city, discovering new ways of approaching dance through amazing and talented people!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It is always hard to achieve a goal, especially one that is so personal and special to you. Once you care deeply about something, your confidence is constantly challenged by the different experiences you go through. As a dancer, I have had to deal with this and other aspects, like the physical demands, being away from my loved ones, and many others.

But this is also what makes the journey so exciting and rewarding.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a freelance Dancer. Within this last year, I have danced in four companies, and I have done a big number of projects all over the city. The range of dance went from ballet, modern, contemporary to jazz and West African dance.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Getting myself out there by taking classes and auditioning really opened my circle! My friends from school really were a support when it came to helping each other and finding our own community!
