Today we’d like to introduce you to Amruta Shah.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
“Where there is a will there is a way,” a nice quote that has been true in every step of my life. I come from a very strong nit family, bearing strong family values. After marriage, I come to this country with two kids. I was homesick and times were tough both financially and culturally. But I had a dream to be an entrepreneur, hence I went for further education. Got my cosmetology license and moved to Texas. Here, after much struggle I finally have my place.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been a bumpy road all along. When I first landed on this land, afraid is not even suffice to express my emotional had a dream. I wanted to be an entrepreneur. Beginning days were tough in a new country, learning a new language, trying to raise a family all at the same time and fighting for my own free will of becoming a business woman. In Indian culture, a woman is only seen or good for being a housewife. Now this was back 10 years ago. Things are different now. California was my frame of reference as to how women can also succeed and be career oriented. I learned so much from that city. Even though our economic status was tough on my husband earnings only, and far from accommodating my college education. With his support, I completed my Cosmetology school and luckily got my license. Then we moved to Dallas Texas. Another booming city of America. Here my prayers were heard and after few years of trials and tribulations I was able to open my own place. This was long lasting dream come true and I truly thank my lord, my family and this country to give me the support and opportunity. My work is my holy place. I really enjoy treating my clients as my friends and family. I hope to keep moving forward.

I own a beauty salon, it provides services in threading, waxing. and hair. I am known for my threading and waxing skills. My clients tell me that my best quality is being efficient at my job and making the whole experience of threading and waxing painless. They feel like they received spa treatment.
I was very proud of my achievement when Homer Bush, Major League Baseball Second Baseman come to my salon for his needs. I was excited and nervous at the same time when he complimented me on my skills.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a go getter, and do not hesitate to speak my mind. I was a curious child and wanted to learn new things.
