Meet Amy Baylor of Monat Global in West Village

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Baylor.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Amy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always struggled with what I wanted to do career-wise in my life. I decided on a Business Administration major in college because it was the most generic choice. After college, I had various jobs but mostly in the sales space. In 2018 my husband (then fiancé) and I had moved to Dallas from Atlanta for his job. I had been in software sales for the past couple of years so I found a job in that space again. Although the job has such a great sales culture, I was still feeling like I needed something else to be passionate about. In April, a random message on Instagram began a whole new journey that honestly has changed my life.

The opportunity that came my way was to become a market partner with a naturally based, anti-aging hair care company, Monat. I hadn’t heard of the company before…it had only been around a few years which honestly enticed me. I’ve heard of other companies with a similar model that had been around for decades and they seemed over-saturated to me. This was a ground-level opportunity. It was also an opportunity that actually excited me for once! It allowed me to visualize a future that gave me more freedom in life. I did take some time to think it over because I was definitely scared of what people would think of me. I ended up deciding to go for it and told myself even if I don’t make good money at least I am getting myself out of my comfort zone and hopefully help me grow as a person.

One of the first things I was told to do with the training that was provided was to figure out my “Why.” Such an important thing to know in any type of entrepreneurial position. I didn’t struggle at all figuring out mine. I first thought of my short term why which was to earn extra money to go towards are honeymoon. Then I thought about the future and dug deep. I wrote down that my why is:

-to have a job I can enjoy and feel I’m truly successful at that is meaningful.

-I want to be able to travel more and work from where ever not having to worry about how many PTO days I have.

-I’ve always wanted to be a stay at home mom, so this will allow me to do that while still being able to contribute financially to our family. I feel bad if it’s all on my husband and I’ve also been told it’s nice to have something else to do other than just taking care of your kids all day.

-to potentially get into teaching group fitness classes part-time. I love group fitness classes (shout out to StudioHop in Dallas) and I’ve thought about teaching classes for years! This could allow me to actually do it!

Ultimately, I needed something to help me find what my real calling in life is and I thought this would be a great way to help me figure that out.

The rest of 2018 was insane!! As soon as I ordered my starter kit I couldn’t wait to try the hair products out and start the business! I immediately felt so determined to make this work. I started doing self-development through audiobooks, podcasts and our Facebook training groups. Coming from the world of sales, I wasn’t scared of being told no. I knew it was going to take consistency and staying consistent is what I did. I loved the curiosity marketing strategy.

With social media, you never what to be that annoying person always posting about your products on your stories (I had been annoyed by those people in the past) so I follow an 80/20 rule trying to keep 80% my life and what I enjoy and 20% business-related. I never posted the products on my feed, but more so worked on making my page aesthetically to look better. I also started networking with women on social media that I thought could benefit from the business!

Unfortunately, I had zeros across the board during my first month. It was a little discouraging, but I didn’t let it stop me from being consistent. Not giving up is what made my business take off!! My third month in I hit the first leadership rank in the company and the company sent me a free IPad as an incentive they had going on that month. In September (days before my wedding), I hit the rank that would qualify me for a Cadillac! I also was able to earn enough so that I could pay ourselves back from our honeymoon!

I maintained my rank the next two months which allowed me to pick up my Cadillac in December just in time to drive it home to ATL for Christmas! I also qualified for a free trip to Nashville Feb 2019 for a leadership summit and free trip Vegas in April! How quickly I became successful was insane to me and I became so passionate about the business and the company. I was helping others change their life and helping people fix and love their hair!

2019 has been a whirlwind. The trips to Nashville and Vegas were UNREAL. I got to see firsthand how much Monat truly gives and cares about their market partners. They spoil us and provide us with the best training and compensation plan! I did however also experience how to deal with failure. Not hitting my monthly goals every month like I was in the beginning really opened my eyes that just like any other business you have ups and downs. However, at the end of the day, you still show up and do your best! What’s crazy is even though I haven’t hit my next goal yet, I still am determined. I’m still passionate. I learned from my mistakes and it’s helping me grow as a person.

I have transformed as a person. I don’t care so much about what people think of me. I’m more confident than I’ve ever been. I am continuing to get out of my comfort zone and I have 200+ new friends all over the U.S. and Canada. The community of women I have met has been so unexpected. I’ve never been around a group of women who actually want to build each other up and help/collaborate together. I planned a Florida trip with two of my leaders on my team and we had 31 girls ages ranging from 18-28 come who most of us have never met in person. 31 girls and ZERO DRAMA. We all got along and had so much fun together! That trip really opened my mind to how the community you gain from joining this business is unlike any other (and yes, I was in a sorority).

Looking at where I am today I have a new fire that has been ignited in me. My creative juices are flowing!!! Monat just had its annual conference and announced we have done a BILLION DOLLARS in revenue making us the number one premium haircare company in the world!! In addition to that, they are allowing market partners to earn shares within the company (which was originally only offered to people who joined in the first year).

We also just launched an anti-aging skincare line! The goal is to be the best company out there when it comes to anti-aging. We have taken over haircare and now skincare is up next! I’m really excited about these new products. The skincare is naturally based, vegan, clinically tested, dermatologist & ophthalmologist approved & cruelty-free. Basically, everything I’ve been looking for out of skincare! I believe I’m at the point where this can really transform my business and I can continue to achieve some of the bigger goals and reasons I said yes to this business in the first place!!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
100% has not been a smooth road! I’d be shocked if any business didn’t have rocky points. As I mentioned in my story, I didn’t have the quickest start to my business like most people so that was my first hurdle. Then after having seven straight months of moving up then going up and down since then has not been easy.

I’ve had to learn to deal with difficult people or situations in the business as well as the judgement of people not in the business. One of my biggest fears came to life of knowing I had some friends judge me and talk shit about me. That really cut deep and hurt, but in a way, I’m glad I found out and it made me 10x stronger. I’m sure I get judged by a lot of people that know me. This line of business can get a lot of backlash, but I’m thankful for the support system I have and the positives 100% outweigh the negatives.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Monat Global – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a market partner for Monat Global which is headquartered in Florida, but based in all of the U.S., Canada & U.K. We are also about to launch in Ireland and Poland in 2020! Monat has created naturally-based haircare & skincare products. They don’t have any toxic ingredients like a lot of products have and are vegan and cruelty-free. The science and clinical tests that have been done is what sets these products apart from other products out there as well. With the skincare launching in September, we are on our way to becoming a billion-dollar company.

I’m basically a direct sales rep for the company, but I choose how and when to run my business. I have built out and am continuing to build out a team of women who also want more out of a career like I did or just want the community, free trips or car! I run my business mostly on social media by sharing the products and business opportunity with others. I am also constantly networking in person as well. My team uses Facebook groups and Zoom for trainings and team calls.

I help onboard and train new girls on my team as well as create content for my social media platforms. I know there are other companies out there that you can be a market partner with, but I believe Monat does the best job at compensating their market partners as well as just spoiling us with multiple free trips, gifts, the car, and trainings. I haven’t seen anything else like it, and I want to share this opportunity with everyone! Not many jobs give you the freedom like this!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I think the biggest change I’m looking to make in my business is to expand more locally in Dallas. I’ve focused a lot on social media since it’s the easiest when I do still work full-time, but I want to plan more events, meetups, etc. to share this opportunity with people in the DFW area. It’s so much fun when you can get together with the people you work with every day, so forming more of a Dallas community of women that work the business and want to collaborate in person is really exciting for me.

I also would like to plan events for all women in the DFW area that have side hustles or are entrepreneurs. I have a lot of girls on my team that do have this as a side hustle and although I would like to make this more of my primary job, I do think I’ll continue to have other side jobs when I do eventually leave software sales. I respect anyone that has a side hustle so bringing together anyone that has one or has their own business could be really valuable. I’ve learned from listening to a ton of podcasts that we can learn so much from each other whether we are in the same line of work or not.
