Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Downey.
Amy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Hi there!
Amy, here! Wife, Mom and Photographer!
For as long as I can remember, I loved taking photos. It really started with a love for all things beautiful. I grew up in a small town in Montana. I was surrounded by mountains, gorgeous sunsets, and the most vibrant canola fields you could imagine! It leads to a passion for landscape photography. “Forever the girl who gets excited when the sky is pretty colors.” I am an extremely sentimental person. I think that is why I love giving people the gift of photos to treasure for years to come.
In a social setting, you can find me being a “chatty Kathy” and the person taking photos of all that is unfolding around me. I have a hard time straddling the line of being present in the moment and wanting to have a photo to cherish that very moment.
In 2014, I was able to start my photography business. Clicking the “order” button on that Canon website to purchase my first professional camera was such an exciting moment! The full first year, I worked for free to help build my portfolio. It was a very exciting, crazy first year. Working a full-time job and trying to grow a photography business on the side was tough. But my husband was supportive through all of the trials. Putting myself out in this field that I knew very little about. Luckily, I was able to gain a great friend who was a fellow photographer. She taught me so much!
In 2016, I was so blessed to become a Mom. That didn’t put my passion for photography on hold, if anything, it lit a fire under it!
The following year, in 2017, I was able to work as a Second Shooter for my good friend, and fellow photographer Kiralee Jones. That summer, we shot 16 total weddings! I am so blessed to have that opportunity. I learned and grew so much from that summer!
In the past five years, I have had the pleasure of meeting so many wonderful people. Countless weddings, families, and High School seniors. I feel extremely fortunate to be involved in the most important day of somebody’s life. I am so thankful for all the trials, and success.
Fast forward to 2019, you can find me in Fort Worth, Texas. I am eager to continue to work with Families, and Brides and Grooms here as well. I am looking into diving into some new industries, which I am very excited about! By day, I work in Real Estate. I love every aspect of the industry and the ever-changing times! The next avenue I’d like to begin exploring is Real Estate Photography! Working with Real Estate agents to taking photos of homes for sale, all the way to working for Construction companies needing project update photos! Stay tuned! And finally, I am very excited to start exploring Outdoor Lifestyle Photography. Growing up in Montana, I was raised with a gun or fishing pole in my hand. It was a part of life. It was a way of surviving. I’m so excited to combine my passion for Hunting, and Fishing with Photography!

Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a very challenging road. In a good sense. I have learned a lot by mistake, and I’m more than okay with that. To me, that’s the best way to learn.
I really enjoy looking at my progress and success along with the past five years!
An easy road does not make you a successful business owner. Trials, tribulation and ambitious to continue makes you a good business owner.

I feel that my broad spectrum of experience sets me apart. From one end, I’ve done weddings, and the other end I am looking to get in the field and sit with some hunters and document that part of life. The part of life I will always have a soft spot in my heart for.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Absolutely!! The opportunity in the DFW area is outstanding and frankly very overwhelming! It is so so so exciting!!
