Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Zamora.
Amy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I graduated in 2014 with my Masters in Design Management from Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) and it was during my time studying that I was introduced to the world of visual thinking. I fell in love with the practice and all the benefits it brings and dreamed of taking my career in the direction of becoming a visual practitioner. After working and studying under some of the original pioneers in graphic facilitation and visual coaching, I opened up The Graphic Flow and love bringing my passion for visual thinking to individuals and small businesses that are tired of the same old boring meetings.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have definitely been some hills along the way and I think most entrepreneurs can relate to never feeling “ready” to get out there, but I’m so glad that I made the jump because the work I do has been not only rewarding for my clients but for me as well. Sharing visual processes and practices that have helped make my own life so much easier, with others, so they don’t have to endure some of the ruts we can all get stuck in, both personally and professionally.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
At The Graphic Flow, I facilitate groups, and coach individuals using proven visual thinking methods. Simply put, I make meetings visual and help people literally SEE what they mean. Using giant sheets of paper, markers, and graphic templates I take my clients on a visual journey of process and strategic planning. By incorporating visual thinking into businesses an amazing environment for collaboration and decision making is created, making group buy-in easier in meetings and studies show comprehension and retention go up by up to 70% when incorporated.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I loved anything that had to do with being creative. From exploring outdoors to writing my own books. If it involved using my imagination, I was in. My interests were broad but the underlying thread was always some form of art or creative thread. Looking back now, I can see I had adopted visual thinking strategies even before I knew what I was doing. For example, my journals and college notes were all filled with visual notes or sketchnotes, a term I only later learned and became familiar with.
