Today we’d like to introduce you to Ana Resendiz.
Ana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My love for styling began when my mom allowed me to pick out my own hairstyle from a magazine. My stylist made it look just like the picture, including a cute little clip at my bangs. I remember instantly feeling more confident and beautiful. I knew then, that I wanted to make others feel the same. When the time came, I enrolled at Ogle School of Hair, Skin & Nails in Fort Worth and began realizing my dreams. Constantly immersing myself in education, I wanted to find a solution for thinning hair. Many women in my family struggled with it, due to genetics and hormone imbalances. I experienced thinning hair first hand too, after dealing with PCOS and postpartum hair loss. Needless to say, I was thrilled when I was introduced to extensions. I became certified in various lines, trying to find a method that wouldn’t compromise the integrity of thin and fragile hair. After years of research, I discovered Natural Beaded Row extensions. NBR is a sew-in method, using hand-tied hair with minimal points of contact. I knew this was the solution I was searching for, so I applied for their six month certification program. I was accepted and traveled to California for hands-on training with the founder, Danielle K. White and lead trainer, Ani Rivera. I gained so much more than just learning an extension method. After the initial training, I was accepted into NBR Academy, an 18-month mastermind program. The training included the NBR method and one-on-one education with the amazingly talented creator and lead trainers, who covered color and cutting techniques that provide the safest and most natural looking extensions.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I absolutely love my work, but there have been challenges. A difficult pregnancy forced me to step away from doing hair, shortly after completing school. But I used that time to dig deep into my education to prepare for my return. Once my youngest stated school, I jumped back into my career. At first it felt like a set-back, as most of my peers were established hair stylists and I was starting over as an apprentice at age 30. However, I was quickly reminded that God’s timing is perfect. Now, everything is falling into place and the balance of being a wife, mom and entrepreneur is going great!
Ana Resendiz Styling – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Today, I own a luxury solo studio at Novak Hair Studios in downtown Fort Worth where I specialize in hair extensions and color. I’m proud of being able to offer a customized hair experience to each of my clients while also being a part of Novak’s comprehensive recycling and sustainability program. Having the ability to offer a solution for thinning hair with NBR and volume toppers has also given me purpose. There’s no greater feeling than helping a woman feel sexy and confident, with the help of extensions.
Where do you see your industry going over the next 5-10 years? Any big shifts, changes, trends, etc?
I’ve definitely seen shifts in the beauty industry over the years and they are positive strides to become more inclusive and environmentally conscious. Also, social media has been a game changer and I feel it will continue to be. As far as trends, they are skewing towards timeless and lived-in looks. We’re also seeing more clients embrace their natural sparkles (AKA grey hair) and are grey blending or completely going grey. And product lines are only getting better, as well as the education offered to stylists, which raises the bar for our industry as a whole.
