Today we’d like to introduce you to Andre Thompson.
Andre, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was raised by a single mother who was addicted to drugs during my younger years. I heard a lot and seen a lot. I had a really low self-esteem growing up and was very shy. I got married my senior year in Highschool and divorced one year later. I then moved to Dallas with my sister and started hanging around her boyfriend in, which was a drug dealer and after long, I was selling drugs on street corners. I did that for about one year and moved from house to house mitel to motel until one day I accidentally shot myself in the leg so I had to move down to East Texas with my mom until I got better but while I was down there my mother introduced me to a lady that became my wife and the mother of my four kids, while I was living with my mom one of her friends who was a police officer asked me if I ever thought about being a police officer and I said no, he then said I could come ride with him someday to see if I liked it and so I did and I liked it, they then sponsored me to go to the Police Academy and I went I Graduated and I served as a police officer for eight years.
After leaving the police department I working as a carpenter and I started my own business, I then volunteered for the Salvation Army to join a National contest in which I would ring the Salvation Army bell non-stop to compete against others around the world, and after ringing the bell for five days straight for 105 hours I broke the Salvation Army World Record in a three-way tie with a guy from Minnesita and California, it was all over world news and even was a trivia Question on who wants to be a millionaire.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Watching my mom be abused and use drugs and being moved from house to house.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
