Meet Andrew Ridout of Frankly Good in East Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Ridout.

Andrew decided to follow a vegan lifestyle in 2015 and was having trouble finding a decent tasting chocolate chip cookie. Having a major sweet tooth, a marginally good cookie just didn’t cut it for him so he decided to try making them himself. After a lot of trial and error, he finally perfected a plant-based chocolate chip cookie. He had always had a dream of starting his own company so after getting a lot of positive feedback from family and friends on his sweet treats, he took a chance and started Frankly Good in March of 2019. He expanded his varieties to include delicious nutty chocolate chip and ginger rosemary cookies as well as nutty oatmeal brittle. Although he was selling at local farmers’ markets for most of 2019, since early 2020, the Frankly Good brand has shifted its focus to retail and has grown to over ten dealers in the DFW area and in Austin. They also sell direct-to-consumer through their website.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Other than normal business decisions such as marketing, money management, distribution logistics, there have been no major obstacles so far.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Frankly Good story. Tell us more about the business.
We make 100% plant-based cookies and other treats. We specialize in creating desserts that taste as good, if not better, than their traditional animal-product counterparts. The thing I am most proud of is that most of our customers aren’t even vegan. I love seeing the look on someone’s face when they taste one of our cookies and enjoy it the same as they enjoy a cookie that utilizes milks, eggs, and/or butter.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t think luck has played a role in the success of the business however, I do think we entered the market at a good time and found our niche with vegan sweet treats.
