Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Strickland.
Pixel and Texel was started by two developers, Brett Estabrook and Andrew. They worked together in the video game industry for years and decided to start an app development company that was actually run by developers. Their first project was a game that ended up being featured by Apple. Next, they expanded their business to include all facets of app development.
Their duo expanding into a larger team, hiring some incredible talent in Dallas. The main goal was to create an atmosphere that fosters creativity and stability. They felt this was only possible with developers at the helm – they’ve been in the trenches so they understand the work in a way that a typical producer or business developer would not. They are also the most dog-friendly company ever.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the beginning, we never thought we’d work in so many areas (apps, VR, backend, etc), but we realized this was key to creating a stable business plan. Our success is a mixture of hard work, hiring amazing people, and pure dumb luck. Not to mention how handsome we are (but if we do mention it, we are very averagely handsome).
Please tell us about Pixel and Texel.
Pixel and Texel is a software studio that specializes in made to order apps, VR, and websites. We’re known for engineering creative solutions for complex problems. Our studio has had to be pleasure of working on products for Oculus, Qualcomm, Cinestate, and the NCAA to name a few. The Pixel and Texel team is a tight-knight group of incredibly talented developers that bring digital ideas to life. All of our work is handled in-house, right in Dallas, TX, so we can work hand in hand with clients through every step of the creative process.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
This is not really a favorite memory, but it is pretty funny. When I was a kid, my sister had a large “collection” of pennies in an enormous novelty piggy bank. One day, we emptied it out on the floor and I swam around like Scrooge McDuck in his DuckTales money vault.
We were having such a great time that I couldn’t stop laughing. So I ended up laughing some change right down my throat like a smart guy. My Dad then had the pleasure of taking me to the emergency room (at the hospital where he was a doctor, probably a shining moment of pride for him). Quick X-Rays showed that I did, in fact, swallow some coins. They are probably still rattling around my body somewhere.
