Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Mosley.
Angel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am one of only 17% of women in Cybersecurity. My career in tech started over 15 years ago. My journey has afforded her the opportunity to sit in boardrooms and serve as a Strategic Trusted Advisor to multiple C-level executives for Fortune 50+ companies. A career in cyber ‘changed the game’ for me! Minorities make up less than 10% of the overall Cybersecurity workforce. Although it is a growing profession, young people of color are not exposed to the countless opportunities in cyber careers.
CyberSecurity GameChangers was created with the mission to bring diversity to the cybersecurity profession and to proactively address the talent gap with Awareness Events. Our target audience is young people from 11 to 17 with an interest in STEM, Cybersecurity, Online Safety, Careers in Cyber, or anyone who is just curious about technology. We have the privilege of serving our community by partnering with other STEM youth organizations like: Geekletes and BSTEM Academy.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Yes! The most recent and obvious challenge has been the COVID-19 pandemic. Since our business model was built on holding in-person events, awards ceremonies, lunch and learns, after school and summer camp programs; we’ve had to re-think our strategy and delivery model. This has caused me to do research on the best method to deliver virtual events and figure out a way to keep the kids engaged. I’ve since partnered with Geekletes Esports Studios to use their platform to deliver our next virtual event, which will take place in the August/Sept. 2020 time frame (still working out logistics). Depending on the physical restrictions, we want to be able to do a ‘back to school’ event for the local community coupled with the virtual aspect of the CyberSecurity Awareness Symposium.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with CyberSecurity GameChangers – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
We specialize in bringing awareness of cybersecurity careers, education and online safety to young people. Our target audience is young people from 11 to 17 or anyone who is just curious about technology. We are most proud of being able to connect with and guide young people who have expressed interest in the industry and who are up for the challenge of learning more!
What sets us apart from others is that, while there are other technology camps and cyber awareness programs available, our mission is to focus on under-served communities and mentor them so that we can “change the game” for their futures!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Yes, as we’ve had to pivot to a new delivery platform, I’ve since partnered with Geekletes Esports Studios to use their platform to deliver our next virtual event, which will take place in the August/Sept. 2020 time frame. Our goal is to host a ‘back to school’ event for the local community where we will give away backpacks filled with school supplies and possibly even electronic tables to help them prepare for the upcoming school year. We are also starting a scholarship program that will be coupled with the awards program we already have during our CyberSecurity Awareness Symposium.
