Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Bates.
Hi Angela, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My story is definitely one for the books! I come from a long line of entrepreneurs, so I always knew that I would have my own business one day; I just didn’t know what kind. When I was a little girl, I promised my paternal grandfather two things that I’ve never forgotten – that I would follow in his footsteps and one day have a business of my own and that I would one day write. I always loved to read and could barely hold a conversation with him without a book in one hand, so he figured I would have read every book there was to read by the time I grew up and would need to start writing my own!
Forever a daddy’s girl, I was usually following one of my grandfathers, my daddy, or my uncles around as they managed their businesses and side hustles. Somewhere along the way, I developed a business acumen that has helped me more than I ever thought these days. I learned how to talk to diverse groups and network like no other. Once my businesses started making money, I understood the wisdom in investing in the businesses and building a solid team to keep them growing.
It took me some time to deliver on those promises, but those conversations have always been in the back of my mind, especially throughout my corporate career. I eventually got my degree in business and had various careers in healthcare, finance, clinical operations, and medical affairs that empowered me with project management, organizational development, and international business skills that are the foundation for every business I own.
My first business idea was an upscale restaurant and lounge that would feature live music from some of the top R&B artists in the United States. I had found a prime location, support from several artists and investors ready to help me make it happen when COVID-19 hit, so I shifted focus, making my next business venture a home health agency that was registered and fully marketed, but my heart wasn’t in it. As a matter of fact, a business advisor in a networking group I was a part of called me one day and said, “So, you’re a writer. But you want a home health care agency … “
Soon after, I decided to pursue a business that is based on a passion of mine – writing. I had already started a side gig as a celebrity ghostwriter, so it made sense for me to start The Write CEO, a global communications agency comprised of a multicultural team of journalists, writers, and visionaries that helps me empower the world’s business, community, and social leaders with stories that develop brands and build legacies.
Once I started The Write CEO, it wasn’t long before Zennovative Recruiting was formed with two of my business partners.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Absolutely, positively not! It feels like I ran into every obstacle possible – from identity theft, hacked email and social media accounts to illness, I experienced things that caused me to lose traction early on. But I’m no quitter, lol! Once I decide to give something my all, I do just that and I’m so thankful that I did. I continued to push myself forward and brought on a strong team that believes in me and at times, works just as hard for all my businesses as I do. I learned to push fear out of the door by letting my faith take over the fear.
We’ve been impressed with The Write CEO and Zennovative Recruiting, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m an award-winning entrepreneur, business advisor, celebrity ghostwriter, and CEO of two companies, The Write CEO and Zennovative Recruiting.
The Write CEO continues to evolve and now offers a signature service called Write Your Vision® that includes in-depth online writing workshops, author development coaching, self-publishing coaching, and a retreat designed to empower writers through intensive workshops, a 1:1 coaching session, brand photos, marketing strategies, and more. We are exceeding our expectations and consistently increasing our expansion into other countries. We take pride in helping others tell stories that resonate with readers and establish legacies.
I am also the founder and CEO of Zennovative Recruiting, a global recruiting and HR consulting agency that aligns talented clinical operations, finance and accounting, healthcare, and IT professionals with leading companies. My partners, Martins Acha and Eno Acha, and I are passionate about using Zennovative to level out the playing field and help individuals get higher pay while pushing buttons that raise the roof on ceilings. In addition to our work with Zennovative Recruiting, we are also collaborating on an initiative of BioLife Genetics Research that will lead to more clinical trials in Africa and other parts of the world. BioLife Genetics Research is a company strategically designed and led by Martins and Eno that promises to deliver uncompromising healthcare to underserved populations. You can expect to hear exciting news on each of these business endeavors in the coming months.
Networking has been a big part of my success, so I founded the Leading Ladies Collective, an exclusive, global group for female business leaders and owners who need access to vital resources. The experience has been designed to help elevate brands and create longevity. Members are engaged through monthly virtual sessions and will have opportunities to network with other business leaders and investors. I host each of the mastermind sessions with several other leading ladies from around the world.
I will continue to do all that I can to make positive changes in the world and am especially excited about my next venture, Communications Director for Madam MacDella Cooper, an impactful leader who is running for President of Liberia in 2023. I’m excited to lead communications for Madam Cooper’s campaign and look forward to continuing to create communication strategies that will assist her in bringing long-awaited, positive changes to Liberia once she is elected President.
I’m grateful for every opportunity I have to build communities and purposely developed a team that is diverse and multitalented – my team is spread out across the US, South America, and Africa and brings a fresh perspective to every project we take on. The best part is, I’m still going – the more I see my visions become reality, the higher I aim!
How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
I love networking and look forward to connections that allow me to help more people in the coming years. It is easiest to connect with me and find out what’s going on in my world through my social media pages and websites.
