Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Flournoy.
Angela, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My background is in graphic and web design. I’ve worked on everything from personal and company branding to designing web sites. For small businesses and corporations. I got my start in photography working on my blog in my past time over five years ago. I photographed interiors primarily until last year. I was always very afraid to photograph people. A good friend asked if I could help with brand photos for their business and I couldn’t say no. Turns out, I loved it! It was an opportunity to take what I’ve learned as a branding designer and use it behind the lens.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I was a serial side hustler until February 2018 when I finally got the courage to take the leap to be a full-time entrepreneur. I don’t think any amount of preparation truly prepares you for owning a business. There’s a lot to learn and initially, I stressed about everything! So much, that I made myself sick. The best decision I ever made was hiring a business coach. She helped me through that tough time and we created an action plan for the future. Now I’m way more relaxed and I’m enjoying this crazy, fun journey.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Angela Flournoy Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in brand photography for business owners, bloggers, and influencers. I partner with my clients to create the best imagery that will tell their brand’s story. I’m not the type of photographer that you’ll meet for the first time at the shoot. With my clients, we discuss and sometimes define their brand story together. We go through exercises like creating vision boards to be clear of our goals way before the shoot date. I think this helps my clients to trust me more, which allows them to let go and have fun during the shoot.
