Meet Angela Webb of Angela Webb Photography in Addison

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Webb.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 2013, I made the transition from my hometown Monroe, LA to Dallas, TX to attend the Art Institute of Dallas. I majored and later received my BFA in Digital Photography. There, I was exposed to many different styles of photography, Architecture, Food, Table Top, but the one that stuck with me the most was Fashion.

Photography started out as a hobby for me. I got my first camera as a birthday gift to myself when I was 19. I photographed everything from church events, school functions, and documented family and friends’ most memorable moments. I have always been attracted to fashion magazines and one day wanted to start my own. When I began to steer away from a teaching career, I decided to pursue photography full time.

After working with fashion students and studying fashion magazines like Elle, Seventeen magazine, Vogue, I fell in love with the product of shooting people in clothes they loved. I quickly found my niche for viewing people and certain elements of clothing, accessories, and hairstyles in precise surroundings such as on location or in the studio.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have definitely been some challenges along the way. I learned early on that nothing worth having comes easy. When I graduated from The Art Institute, I realized I didn’t own any photography equipment of my own. With me not picking a cheap profession, it put a strain on my process of not being able to book as many clients or produce new work for potential clients. There are many resources in the DFW area that allow me to rent equipment, but again there are limitations when it comes to renting vs. owning.

Another challenge was narrowing down who my audience was. Who was I marketing my work to? Again I was exposed to many different styles of photography, but Fashion is a broad field within in itself. So knowing what style of fashion and how I wanted to present my portfolio was and sometimes still is a challenge.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Angela Webb Photography – what should we know?
Angela Webb Photography is a platform for upcoming models talent, and the everyday person, to be photographed through creative documentation. I provide headshots, portraits, and other fashion-forward images based on the request of the client.

My goal is to help those seeking to market or expand their brand in a fun and exciting way to reach that goal with my camera.

What I think sets me apart from others is my creativity. I am always willing to go the extra mile to make sure I have executed what the client has requested.

I am most proud of what I have accomplished with such little resources and the invites and recognition I have received along the way. Whether it was a local show here in Dallas or being the speaker for an online photography class, I’m proud that I can pass on the knowledge I have gained and it is effective.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel like my personality is the characteristic that has gotten me this far. I am an outgoing person as well as open-minded. I love meeting new people and feel I can spark up a conversation with just about anyone. In my profession, I have learned that communication is key. Though I am an outgoing person, I still get nervous at times. Networking helped me gain more confidence in who I am as a person as well as a photographer. Going to different art events, and giving people my elevator speech was something I had to develop over time. I never realized how hard it was walking up to a complete stranger and asking if they would be interested in modeling or having their picture taken. Yet I quickly found out that, that was the only way to do it. Put myself out there and go for it.
