Meet Angie Watts of Glow Bakery in North Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angie Watts.

Angie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today
My baking started as a young girl. Waking up on Christmas morning to a Holly Hobbie mini oven under the tree, I immediately plugged it in and started mixing and baking the mini cakes that were included. I couldn’t wait for my family to taste them! Hearing their ooh’s and ahh’s made me so happy! Bringing joy to others by making something that tastes incredible is why I fell in love with baking.

Fast forward into my adulthood, I worked at an office job that was not enjoyable so I started doing what I love…baking! My happy place is creating great food, it is so gratifying.

At the same time, I was struggling with a rare eye condition. My body’s autoimmune system was attacking my eye causing severe pain and headaches. Of course, doctors put me on all types of medications that caused terrible side effects and was not fixing the problem. It only masked the symptoms. I’d had enough and started researching alternative methods . My first experiment was a Paleo diet.

This changed my health forever. Through a Paleo approach, I had fewer flare-ups, but it would still eventually come back. Next, I eliminated sugar and reduced my carbs, so I transitioned into a ketogenic diet. This was the final breakthrough for my health and wellness. I’ve been flare-up free going on two years! The ketogenic diet has reduced inflammation in my body so I no longer need to be on any medication! I decided to adopt this as a permanent lifestyle. I am not only feeling great, I am losing weight with lot’s of energy

Changing my diet meant a new way to cook and bake. Baking low carb can be a real challenge. Regular all-purpose flour reacts very differently than almond or coconut flour. Overcoming this challenge fueled my passion. There are so many “tried and true” low carb recipes on the Internet. I find joy in putting my own twist on most recipes. This lead to some unique and tasty keto treats that did not deprive my family or myself. Friends and family all agreed these bakes were amazing!

Through my online research, I discovered a massive need for this type of low carb baking within the Fort Worth area. In 2018, my family decided I would open up a home bakery that catered to health conscious individuals who like me have special dietary needs and can’t eat traditional bakery goods. On July 31st, 2018 Glow Bakery was born!

Glow Bakery’s ultimate goal is to serve you by providing treats that are actually good for you! They are diabetic and celiac friendly. They won’t leave you with a sugar crash, or in a carb coma!

My passion is helping you stay on track with your health goals! Everything I bake is sugar-free, gluten-free, low-carb and keto friendly! Glow Bakery is an organic and non-GMO bakery using quality ingredients so you can GLOW from the inside out!

My success has been word of mouth and social media. In 2020, I am excited to be moving into a commercial kitchen so I can begin wholesale distribution around the local coffee shops, restaurants and grocery stores! I want everyone within the Dallas/ Fort Worth area to get their hands on Glow Bakery treats!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My biggest struggle is internal. I didn’t finish my college degree, and sometimes self-doubt creeps into my head, and I fight to not let it settle into my heart!

I can be my worst critic and pray everyday to push past my fears. To keep going even when I am scared of the challenges ahead.

Personally, being an entrepreneur is really teaching me about myself and my capabilities. That I am an overcomer! When setbacks happen, I learn from them and continue to grow into a successful entrepreneur!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Glow Bakery – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others. So, what’s next? Any big plans?
A very proud moment was a special order cake for a sweet sixteen birthday. This lovely young lady had never been able to eat a birthday cake before due to her life-threatening allergies. I was so overjoyed when her mother came to pickup the cake and tell me their story. She sent me photos showing their daughter with her first real birthday cake. This made me so incredibly happy and solidified that I am fulfilling my purpose.

My best-selling products are French Lavender Lemon Bars. I use real organic lemon juice and zest, along with real French lavender. It has an incredible shortbread buttery crust! It literally tastes like summer in your mouth!

What sets me apart is the quality of ingredients. I use heart healthy organic coconut oil, organic butter, and organic avocado oil. A unique and healthly ingredient is grass-fed, non-GMO collagen found in my lemon bars, caramel, and my Glow Fudgy Brownies. I add this vital supplement because collagen levels decrease as we grow older. Collagen also helps us to have strong bones, nails, and hair.
