Meet Anita Sanchez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anita Sanchez.

Hi Anita, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Hecho Con Amor is a reoccurring vendor market that supports and offers a platform and spotlight for small and local businesses. The market was started over 3 years ago and its main emphasis is on the BIPOC creatives and members of the community.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Getting to work with all the wonderful small business owners and local creatives has been an amazing experience. I love what I do and I look forward to learning more along the way. The road has not always been the easiest but having a strong support team and good working relationships have proven to be vital in helping get through any hurdles.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Along with hosting the Hecho Con Amor market, I am a jewelry designer and have created under the business name of Anne’s Disasters for many years. I have been honored to teach jewelry design classes with The Black Apple online school with Andrea Brazemore and in person at the Mesquite Arts Center with Erica Guajardo. I think the sense of community and support at the Hecho Con Amor markets is what really sets us apart.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I think the ability to bounce back from discouraging situations is super important. I have learned that not everyone shares the same business model or motives and that while it can be very easy to take certain things personally, it makes more sense and is more helpful to learn and grow from difficult situations. I think tenacity, courage, and staying genuine in your ideals and mission are very important. Also, remember to enjoy what you are doing. A huge part of the joy of working for yourself is being able to actually enj0y interacting with the people you work alongside and really being present.
