Today we’d like to introduce you to Anitra Pierre-Johnson.
Anitra, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started cooking for others when I was 26. I was never the person to be in the kitchen cooking or to even learn the process. I grew up in New Orleans, LA where you were taught to cook at an early age. I didn’t take interest in it until I moved to TX in 1999. I used to cook in the weekends and sell plates. We call them Supper plates. In 2014, I created six wings sauces and now we have ten that we started selling March of this year. I am in the process of opening a bistro in Pantego for I have outgrown my house. I started cooking full time again and can’t wait to leave my job to enter into entrepreneurship.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s by far not the smoothest thing I’ve done but worth it… I have had to learn to bottle my own sauces label them and selling them online. Help is my biggest struggle. I have family that comes to help out but they all have full-time jobs… so my business is being built with my own money… I now am able to hire a few people now that I am profiting money.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I specialize in wing sauces. My sauces gets the people to come… I’ve learned from many of my customers that the sauces can be used for many different things not just wing sauces. I recently added personal utensils due to the Virus going on right now in the world for additional protection. I am most proud of my sauces. I’ve had an amazing response from my customers who knows I’m in the beginning stages and when I mess something up, they will allow me to fix it before bashing the one thing a messed up on. So I’m most proud of my sauces and customers they make me happy!
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I think it’s the best place to start a business. I tried in Arizona and did not get the help I needed, it seems like the city was not willing to help point a new business in the right direction. As to Dallas, every time I call with questions I get an answer, I get help and just friendly people to help me along the way… I wish every city had something set up or a place where new business owns can go to get paperwork on what’s needed and where to start for new owners…
