Today we’d like to introduce you to Aniyah Roche.
Hi Aniyah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Interior design has been a love of mine ever since I was a young child. I like to call it my natural-born passion because I can’t recall a specific moment when I fell in love with interior design – it has just always been there. In high school, my top two career choices were Interior Design and Nursing. Unfortunately, I chose the income route instead of the passion route and ended up graduating from college with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science (that’s a story for another day). I fell into post-grad depression, and while experiencing this, I was led to pursue my passion. This is when the pursuit of my interior design business began.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It certainly has not been a smooth ride. It still isn’t. There is always an internal battle within myself – am I doing enough? Can I do more? How can I improve? What needs to change? Is this really for me? Etc. Not to mention, being a one-woman show and wearing all the hats that make the business run. It can be very overwhelming and very exhausting, but the important thing is to always keep striving.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Sixth & Ashland Design Co.?
Sixth & Ashland Design Co. is a full-service interior design firm. I design residential and commercial spaces, but currently, my main focus is residential design. I offer a variety of design services that are tailored to clients at all levels. What stands out with Sixth & Ashland Design Co. is the fact that my driving force behind design is much deeper than creating pretty spaces. I’m driven by the aesthetic pleasantry, yes… but I’m also driven by the emotional and psychological impact that good design has on my clients. Good design serves the general well-being of my clients, and I love to see how transforming their spaces makes them feel. This is what I’m most proud of – creating spaces that not only look good but serve and uplift my clients.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
As much as I love good design and everything home-related, I am not a fan of the Glam design style or the Farmhouse design style. I know that they are pretty common design styles, but as a designer, they are just not my cup of tea.
