Meet Ann Hardy of Artist Hardy Art Gallery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ann Hardy.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My livelihood comes from my art. Have had some real adventures along the way as I honed my skills with workshops abroad and in the US. In Guatemala, I drove a van with eight passengers and the driving is horrendous. This is a story in itself.

Was asked to be the cook on a 51′ sailboat, with seven of us on board. St. Lucia was our originating destination. We sailed for eleven days and stopped at a half dozen islands in the Grenadines. Ate avocados the size of a small football, fresh tuna we caught, and melons I have never eaten before or since. Sketched along the way.

Great workshop in France with a castle as our home. A favorite was the Amalfi Coast of Itlay with home base Sorrento. Painted all along the villages of Positano, Praiano, and Paestum. Loved the painting and learning about Pompei. While in Pompei, had two feral dogs join me and stay with me and protect me. That was intriguing to me. They would not let the teacher get near me. Been all over the US for workshops with favorite teachers.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Believe me, it is not easy to earn your livelihood from the arts. I got started by painting for festivals and starving art shows. Learned to paint really fast and sold at them,

Ann Hardy, Artist Hardy Art Gallery – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Now sell through galleries over the states and my gallery. Love to compete in national exhibitions. Those exhibitions have also been a good way to sell.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Several proudest moments: Winning 2nd and 3rd in the National Oil Painters of America, doing a demo for OPA in Missoula, Montana, Winning Best Painting for National American Women Artists. Just awarded Master Signature status from National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society (was # 10 to receive this)
