Meet Anna Childress

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Childress.

Anna, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
From a pretty young age, I knew I always wanted to be somebody in the beauty industry. I’d always been fascinated and drawn to anything beauty related. When I was 16, I enrolled in a trade school where my days were partially high school, partially cosmetology school. By 17, I had graduated high school and earned my cosmetology license all at once and I immediately started working in a salon. I worked in a commission salon for about 5 years and then decided I was ready to be on my own and open my own suite and it was one of the best decisions I could have made for my career!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely wasn’t easy getting to where I am today. Building my clientele was one of my biggest struggles. Being so young, it was hard to earn people’s trust in my skills and abilities. I had to really push myself to keep moving forward and gain my ideal clientele. Through extensive training and advanced education, I became exactly what I wanted; a blonding and hair extension specialist!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in blondes and hand-tied hair extensions! I think keeping up with your education and training is so important. I’m constantly taking classes, following mentors, and looking into what is coming next! Trends come and go so fast nowadays so you really have to always be on your toes when it comes to new trends and techniques! If you want to be successful and STAY successful in the hair world, you HAVE to be willing to learn new things!

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Networking is a huge part of being a hairstylist! If you think about it, that’s what it’s all about really. If you don’t put yourself out there with new people and make these new connections, you’ll never have anyone in your chair! My biggest advice is to think about your “ideal client” and find them! The worst thing they can do is say they’re not interested, but you’ll never know until you try!
